What is TeamSnap?

TeamSnap is the main form of communication for the Ski/Snowboard Team. Download the app to your phone. Athletes will be invited to our group, then the athlete needs to invite their parents. Imperative communication goes out here, such as last minute race cancellations due to conditions. Get in touch with Zane if you have any issues.

Do we have to stay overnight? If so, where do we stay?

Overnight stays are optional and up to parents. It takes a little over two hours to get to Boreal from Chico. Parents/racers who choose to stay overnight do so at a variety of places. Some families stay in hotels in Truckee or Reno (45 minutes from Boreal) or in Boomtown (30 minutes from Boreal). Some families rent or lease a home in the Tahoe area for the season or for certain weekends.

How do the racers get to and from the mountain?

Parents must provide ALL transportation to the mountain and back for race and practice days. Carpooling is strongly encouraged through the Ride Board. Parents are responsible for connecting with, and making arrangements with other families. All drivers must complete the Volunteer Driver Form and be cleared by Chico High.

Where do I get ski and snowboard gear for my racer?

Gear can be purchased wherever you can find it. Used equipment is acceptable and returning racers often have hand-me-downs to share. For Safety and to comply with CNISSF racing rules, every racer must have a helmet with a FIS certification displayed. Coaches will review clothing and gear requirements at a team meeting. In Chico, Hughes Ski Hut and Sports Ltd are good places to shop for equipment.  Hughes hosts an annual “Swap” with discount prices.  This year it will be held on Sunday, Decemeber 4, 2023 at the PV gym.

Can I watch the races if I don't ski or board?

Absolutely! There is always an area at the base of the race course for spectators. It may be a bit of a hike, but well worth it to see racers fly through the finish line.

What is the ASC Training Center?

The Auburn Ski Club (ASC) Training Center is at the far west end of the Boreal parking lot.  The Center is a base lodge for HS teams (both alpine race teams like ours, and nordic race teams from other schools), and houses the administrative and staff offices of the various training programs.  ASC coaches offer high school ski and snowboard teams quality training by certified coaches in slalom and giant slalom courses set to the CNISSF standard. As a team, we purchase 7 training days to be held at ASC’s training arena at Boreal Mountain Resort. These days will be listed on the calendar as “Gate training”.  ASC has a comfortable day-lodge available for team and families. Please register athletes online with ASC by December 1st.
