The series follows the lives of the firefighters and paramedics working at the Chicago Fire Department at the firehouse of Engine Company 51, Truck Company 81, Rescue Squad Company 3, Ambulance 61 and Battalion 25, starring Jesse Spencer as Lieutenant Matthew Casey, Taylor Kinney as Lieutenant Kelly Severide, Yuri Sardarov as firefighter Brian "Otis" Zvonecek who left after the eighth-season premiere, Charlie Barnett as Firefighter Candidate Peter Mills, who left the series in the third-season episode "You Know Where To Find Me", Monica Raymund as Paramedic in Charge Gabriela Dawson, who left in the seventh season premiere, Lauren German as Paramedic Leslie Elizabeth Shay, who left after the third-season premiere, Eamonn Walker as Deputy District Chief (Formerly Battalion Chief) Wallace Boden, David Eigenberg as firefighter Christopher Herrmann, and Teri Reeves as Doctor Hallie Thomas. Other characters joined the series in later seasons.

The tenth season premiered on September 22, 2021.[1] In April 2023, the series was renewed for a twelfth season.[2] As of May 24, 2023,[update] 239 episodes of Chicago Fire have aired, concluding the eleventh season.
No Chicago Fire finale would be complete without lots of drama, and Season 11's certainly brought it in spades. And now that the NBC drama finally has a Season 12 premiere date in the books, we're one step closer to finding out what's next for everyone at the firehouse.
The fire station is going to be down one man. Alberto Rosende, who has played Blake Gallo for the past four seasons, is exiting the series after the Season 12 premiere, according to Deadline. The decision to leave was allegedly amicable. Kara Killmer, who plays Sylvie Brett, is also leaving in Season 12, and Taylor Kinney, who plays Kelly Severide, is returning.
For much of Season 11, Severide's character was missing while Kinney was on personal leave. His absence was explained on the show by Severide being at an arson investigation training program. However, his wife Stella Kidd found out that he had completed the program without telling her and still hadn't returned to Chicago. At the end of the finale, she took her own leave from the firehouse so she could go and get him to come home.
But as Kinney returns, another cast member is set to exit. Kara Killmer, who plays paramedic Sylvie Brett, is leaving Chicago Fire during Season 12, Variety reported on Nov. 16. Killmer will reportedly still appear in early episodes of the season, although it's not clear how many.
New Chicago Fire season 12 images may have revealed Sylvie Brett's response to Matt Casey's proposal. NBC's One Chicago is set to return with new episodes a bit earlier than its fellow scripted series, meaning that Wolf Entertainment is ramping up the marketing for all of its Chicago-based shows. Out of the trio, however, Chicago Fire season 12 has the most exciting comeback, considering where season 11 left things for Chief Boden and his crew.

There are a lot of interesting details in the Chicago Fire season 12 premiere images, including Kelly Severide suiting backup for Firehouse 51 and Hermann seemingly finding himself in a bad spot. In particular, his peers rush to give him medical attention. However, seeing Sylvie seemingly wearing a ring is arguably the most exciting development. After everything she and Casey have gone through, both as a couple and individually, it's great to see them finally rekindling their romance after being forced to end things.
Admittedly, Sylvie accepting the proposal shouldn't be a surprise. Kara Killmer's confirmed departure from One Chicago has been a big clue for what lies ahead for her character. Casey's proposal in the Chicago Fire season 11 finale almost serves as a set-up for her to be written out of the show without any tragedy. Once she agrees to get married, the next organic step for her is to move with Casey to Portland, Oregon, which means her walking away from her job in Firehouse 51.
The question now is whether their wedding will be held in Chicago or if they will save that for a later date in their new home state. Regardless, it's difficult to imagine that Firehouse 51 won't at least plan a small celebration for the couple before they leave in Chicago Fire season 12. Even if they don't tie the knot in the Windy City, Chief Boden's crew will surely take some time off to commemorate their engagement at Molly's.
Chicago Fire is reportedly planning to make around 13 episodes for Season 11, according to TV Line. The low episode count is mainly due to the limited production time caused by the Hollywood strikes. If there are only 13 episodes, it would mark the shortest season of the procedural ever.

Having Severide and the rest of 51 respond to a fire at the lieutenant's childhood house was a smart way to interweave the two storylines and allow Severide to be a focal point without putting his relationship with Kidd through unnecessary drama.
It's been seasons since Severide and Chicago Med's April have shared any scenes together -- so long that I almost forgot they were friends in their youth -- so their on-screen reunion of sorts was a welcome treat.
Coming from Herrmann, I could believe that, but Cruz, it just didn't make any sense. The father-to-be can be dense at times, but even he's not that stupid as to think that's how female firefighters dress.
Part of the magic of the OneChicago Universe was that it truly felt like one universe, what with all the little crossover moments and frequent cameos. However, those small but unparalleled moments have mostly disappeared during the 2020-21 TV season due to the pandemic.
A television procedural with enough history to rival the likes of NCIS, Chicago Fire has not long completed its eleventh season, with millions of viewers having now tuned in to watch the ups, downs, and in-betweens at Firehouse 51 since 2012. With many a great season in its back pocket, it seems as if the reputation of Chicago Fire grows from strength to strength each year, with the recent announcement of the show's renewal for a Season 12 coming as little surprise.
One man destined to not appear in Season 12 following the shocking ending to Season 11 is Christian Stolte (Law Abiding Citizen) as Randall "Mouch" McHolland. Despite having appeared in all 239 episodes to date, Stolte's time on the show looks to be coming to an end after a sniper opened fire on Firehouse 51 and potentially fatally wounded Mouch, with the finale closing to the sight of life draining from his face. Not a show afraid of killing off one of its many beloved characters, there is certainly a strong possibility that, whether through death or retirement, this could be the end of Christian Stolte's time on the show.
Although there is not yet an official synopsis for Season 12, and with many of Chicago Fire's storylines confined to singular episodes, each season does still have overarching stories and themes. With the Season 11 finale drawing all sorts of questions from the fandom, there are many answers needed that leave more than a simple suggestion as to what is in store for Firehouse 51 in Season 12. Ultimately, the fate of Christian Stolte's Mouch will likely dominate at least the first couple of episodes depending on whether or not he survived. Also, Casey's proposal to Brett despite him supposedly returning back to Oregon could leave the show with more empty space on its hands if Brett ends up following him, or, alternatively, the two may stick around and let their engagement become crucial to Season 12's narrative. Other storylines, including Severide's return and Stella's troubled relationship with her husband, will find resolution in Season 12, with Dick Wolf and co-ready to push the series into unchartered territory as it continues to evolve and mature.
What conversations did you have with Christian coming into the new season? It looks in the pilot like he lost some weight. Was that intentional for the part now that Mouch is more health-conscious?
Welcome back to fighting fires in the Windy City, Severide! I'm not sure what this means for Cruz after he stepped into a leadership position to fill Severide's boots while he was out, but I'm definitely glad to have Taylor Kinney coming back to primetime.
That fact combined with a severely burned firefighter in the above image, and I think that the question of if Mouch is going to die is more or less answered. For me, the question is if Gallo is going to die after Rosende opened up about a decision that "wasn't easy" for him. The injured firefighter on the gurney definitely doesn't look like Christian Stolte as Mouch or David Eigenberg as Herrmann; the only character other than Gallo who could really fit is Capp, and Capp isn't the one on the way out of the show.
Sure, the foreground of the photo just shows Squad's Severide, Engine's Ritter, and Truck's Carver looking somber at what I have to assume is Brett and Violet taking the burned firefighter onto their ambulance, but if you look at the background, you'll spy some barren trees and snow-covered ground. This makes me more optimistic about Mouch being up and about before the end of the episode, assuming he survived, but also curious about what else we may have missed in the months of the extra-long hiatus. 006ab0faaa
