Experiencing the different visiting fireman

In this post I wanted to recall the visit of many visiting firemen when I was running various country operations in different parts of the world for a handful of global corporations.

I found this group of visiting firemen far less supportive than expected; they had enough understanding to be dangerous but could potentially provide those valuable additional insights or access to resources you needed.

More visiting fellows followed Oppenheimer through the program, including Pulitzer Prize winners Ralph McGill and Mark Van Doren. In 1969, Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall spent two days in Exeter. To this day, Exeter benefits from a rich and diverse roster of distinguished visiting speakers and thinkers.

Tours are limited to groups of 25 or fewer (adults and children). We request one adult for every five children visiting our facilities. Firefighters do not attend, or host birthday parties. If you are looking for a party venue with a firefighting theme, you may want to try San Diego's Firehouse Museum at 619-232-3473.

PLEASE NOTE: General announcements and notifications of emergency runs are transmitted over loudspeakers and often accompanied by loud bells and tones. Emergency run announcements will be followed by rapid activity by the members in order to respond quickly, and horns and sirens will be used exiting the building. Younger children might be frightened by all this. Please make them aware of what might happen while they are visiting so they are prepared. Also, while showing our fire gear and apparatus, we try to present age-appropriate fire safety information to the kids. For younger children, especially those under 5, the visit will be more of a chance to simply see the firefighters and apparatus up close, and the visit will be shorter than for older kids.

To Schedule a visit: email Please give the following information: number of students/kids visiting; ages; what school or organization; contact person with phone number; the station you would like to visit, the day and time you would like to visit.

The day of your visit: Call 617-349-4900, our Emergency Communications Center, and ask for the station you will be visiting. When connected, double check that your visit is expected and confirm your time and number of visitors. Upon arrival, if the station is empty, that means the firefighters had an emergency run. Call 349-4900 again, tell them you are at the station for a visit and ask if they know how long before the firefighters return. You can then decide to wait or call and reschedule a visit.

Why? You never know whom you're going to meet at the fire station and where you'll see them again. I remember the time I was in a t-shirt, shorts, and flip flops visiting a fire station. I thought I was all cool and everything until the fire chief walked in and the captain introduced me to him. I found out later from the captain that the chief likes everyone in the department to always wear their uniform because he is into a professional image. As luck would have it, I ended up getting a chief's interview. Unfortunately I was so nervous when I went in there because of how I was dressed when I first met him, that I did not do as good as I could have. Yes, there are those that say that they are not going to be someone they are not and that the chief should take them as they are. Keep thinking in that form or fashion and I bet your chances of getting hired will greatly decrease. It's not what they can do for you - it's what you can do for them.

If you just keep in mind that visiting fire stations can either help your outcome or hurt your outcome, you should be able to make that positive first impression (the only that will potentially last your entire career). Visiting fire stations is a very critical part of the firefighter testing process. Make that positive first impression, and you increase your chances of success!

In Chicago these days, the visitingbusinessman has plenty of time for business. By edict of PoliceSuperintendent Orlando Wilson, the once racy North Side is as dead asGomorrah. Calumet City, thanks to another crusading police chief, hasonly darkened flesh parlors to show for its long career as Chicago'ssin suburb. Even Al Capone's Cicero has quieted down. No matter. If heinsists on drinking life to the lees, the conventioneer can still findparadise enow an hour away in Gary or East Chicago, across the stateline in Indiana's gamy, grimy Lake County.

That lovely tableau sparked the start of my sexy fireman series, Fighting Fire, which includes the USA TODAY and NYT bestseller Burn for Me, and my latest release, Melt for Him, hitting e-readers this week. When I began this series, I wanted to write about a group of sexy firemen in a small town, who respond to fires, of course, as well as car accidents and other emergencies, but who also are part of the small-town life and can be seen out and about town. They might be visiting kids at the hospital, or hosting a pancake breakfast, or teaching fire safety in grade school classrooms. Those are some of the items on the daily to-do list of the men at the fictional Hidden Oaks volunteer fire department in the sleepy Northern California wine country town featured in my books. be457b7860
