History

Joseph Harrison and Mary Thompson, a married couple settled in this area in 1839 and built a little wood home and called it 'Cherrybrook.' They also planted orchards in their 65-hectare piece of land. It is believed that the name Cherrybrook originated from the fact that they grew cherry trees on their farm, later, they called this farm 'Cherrybrook Farm.'

Cherrybrook Farm became the first home village project in Sydney in 1959. The bushes that defined this location were cleared, and residential homes were developed. In the 1980s, advancement of new houses accelerated, and the residential area grew. Some public facilities also opened, and the most notable was the Cherrybrook post office which opened in 1994.
