OMG. My roommate at USC in ... mumble 1977 mumble... used to listen to this song all the time! Every morning as he got dressed this music would bombard me.

It could be worse, his night go to bed song was The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

Now you know your way back from the spirit farmBrush your teeth for bed, blow out that cherry bombBlow out that cherry bomb for meYou've got to know it's on your sleeveKnow it's on your sleeveKnow it's on your sleeve (c'mon)

I agree. The cherry bomb is a symbol of explosion like you said but also of how their love is almost systematic in the sense that its fuse is slowly burning away until it completely explodes. I think he is saying that they need to face the facts and call it off before the bomb burns the whole way through.

I'm surprised that no one invoked the punk legend reference to the song "Cherry Bomb" by The Runaways. Can this be successfully analyzed with that reference in his mind as a metaphor for the female "hoo hoo"? Probably not, but something to think about :)

It's about a virgin who gets herself pregnant, and on the way back from the abortion, instead of going home to her parents, she goes back to him. And he takes her in and takes her upstairs and puts her to bed.

There may be a few inaccuracies in these lyrics, but I am gonna stop trying to correct what people are posting for Spoon's new album.......I THINK this song is a funky way of saying he's got an explosive girlfriend. I think she goes off on him one too many x's & now it's OVAH.

to me it feels like the cherry bomb is her love for him. or her heart. he says "you got to know it's on your sleeve", which makes me think of the saying to wear your heart on your sleeve. it starts with him saying "we lost it long ago", meaning their relationship ovbiously, and then there's the stuff about the sleeve, then thinking back on the break up. then he says " it could burn right up your sleeve", meaning her love will only hurt her. throughout the song he repeats "blow out that cherry bomb", wanting her to forget about it, but at the end surprises us with "i could pay to have all your cherry bomb" (i could pay to have all your love), which makes me think that maybe the cherry bomb is her love for someone else. maybe she cheated on him, and he's really been begging her to blow out her love for this other guy. anyway, that's my take on it. love the song.

I think the cherry bomb is a first rate orgasm and that she keeps leaving him and coming back. That's why he says she found her way back from the spirit farm - she found her way back into his life from the place where he mentally puts people that are dead to him.

But the overall feeling is so positive, "Life can be so fair, let it go on and on" unless I'm reading this from widely different experience and that's meant to be celebritory for someone else getting screwed.

At any rate, at the end, the correct lyrics say something about "I got paid and my hand on your cherry bomb." So he's finally got a handle on what makes her tick whether it be her explosive temper or her love for him or what makes her orgasm.
