Well done Chepstow Harriers

Well done to all the Harriers who turned up to run and the several who came to support at Blaise for today’s Gwent League cross country. I think we had 13 women and 10 men running plus 6 juniors, which is fantastic! There were some great performances. Katherine Matthews and James Blore were our fabulous first finishers and there were plenty of other strong performances too, Georgie Parnell and Kim Carwardine among others had really good races. However the first Captains Prize (chosen by club captains David Wheeler and me and which will be awarded after each league race) goes to Andrew Watts for a great run today and for his contribution to the team events in the relatively short time he’s been a Harrier

This Weeks Training & Events

W/C Dec

Tuesday: Danes Loop

This coming Tuesday we are doing Danes Loop in an anti clockwise direction. This means running from the top of Kingsmark and down Huntfield road at a controlled effort and then running up Kingsmark hill at 10 k / half marathon effort.

MEET AT 7:00 pm at the LC for coaches brief and then proceed to start in pace groups for a warm up. After warm up proceed directly into session

IMPORTANT: because of complaints and concerns expressed by members of the public about safety and noise please

a) wear hi viz reflective vest

b) if possible use footpaths or keep to side of road

c) keep noise down, don’t congregate in groups chatting

There are a number of benefits you can obtain from the session. Think about what you want to get from the session and focus on that aspect.

Eg

a) practice down hill running letting the legs cycle and practice lifting heels behind you so that your feet land beneath your centre of mass. Make sure your upper arms and shoulders are relaxed and not held tensely

b) the first section of the climb up Kingsmark is steep so focus on technique, keeping head up eyes focused 20/30 m in front of you with occasional glance to the top. Your stride will shorten and you will need to lift your knees and push the ground back behind you working glutes and hamstrings. Again relax shoulders avoid build up of tension by trying to force your way up the hill

c) the second section of Kingsmark is still a hill climb but not as steep so you can maintain the effort but pace should increase as stride length also increases

Duration of session is 30 mins.

5 laps for A,B and C, 4 laps for DE and 3 laps for F

Thursday New Tempo Run - continues

Boughsprings Core Route - everyone (pace group E,F,G head out on this straight away)

Boughsprings Warm up loop - A/B pace group

Boughsprings Warm up loop - C/D pace group

(Remember - pace groups A,B,C,D can do extra or less than the warm up loop suggested, before heading out on the core route - but ideally the warm up should be everyone running together at the speed of chat. Once on the core, members can choose to continue running as a group/pair or they can run at their own pace. The core route is intended as a 'tempo' run.

Sweeps (head out with and stay at back of E/F/G)

or 45 Mins Out & Back

Saturday - Fell Series - Skirid

More details to follow

Sunday - December Club Champs race
