The mission of a Toastmasters club is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every individual member has the opportunity to develop oral communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster self confidence and personal growth.

Toastmasters International is the leading movement devoted to making effective oral communication a worldwide reality.

Through its member clubs, Toastmasters International helps men and women learn the arts of speaking, listening, and thinking – vital skills that promote self-actualization, enhance leadership potential, foster human understanding, and contribute to the betterment of mankind.

It is basic to this mission that Toastmasters International continually expand its worldwide network of member clubs, thereby offering ever-greater numbers of people the opportunity to benefit from its program.

As a member of Toastmasters International and my club, I promise . . .

• To attend club meetings regularly;

• To prepare all of my speech and leadership projects to the best of my ability, basing them on projects in the Competent Communication manual, Advanced Communication manuals or Competent Leadership manual;

• To prepare for and fulfill meeting assignments;

The Wordsmith’s is the second community Toastmasters Club in Chennai Tamil Nadu. Way Back in 2006, ‘Toastmasters’ never had the name or fame or the kind of attendance that we have now .

We had a charter member TM Ajay Kumar. He was like any other ordinary member, had neither great speeches nor was he very articulate in his communica- tion. At the second year elec- tion, we thrusted on him VP- PR post.During that year, he left for Australia to take up a job.

I was in touch with him through email for a long time. He had joined a Toastmaster Club in Melbourne with exposure and confidence that he had gained here.

After two years he had become an Area Governor there. With his Indian experience, it was a cake walk for him to make his Area Number One in his District .

It is the proof that ‘Toastmasters’ orientation makes ordinary persons extra-ordinary.

Ajay Kumar was given confidence to network with people in a foreign terrain, which helped him to become an extraordinary person from his humble background .

That is the magic of Wordsmith’s transforming ordinary persons to extraordinary persons.
