I am an applied microeconomist. My research uses causal inference methods to uncover causality (that is, how X affects Y) hidden in non-experimental/observational data.

My research projects have examined topics in different areas, including public economics, economics of crime, urban and real estate economics, law and economics, and labor economics. Some examples are:

  • The effect of high-profile police killings on policing activities;

  • The effect of legalizing retail marijuana on housing values;

  • The effect of cell phone bans on driving behavior;

  • The effect of castle doctrine or stand-your-ground laws on crime.

I am now an Economist at Amazon. Prior to that, I was an associate professor of economics at the University of Mississippi.
