The Abdulmalik Lab focused on interdisciplinary research covering Inorganic Chemistry and Material Science with a priority on porous materials such as Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs), Coordination Polymers, and Coordination Cages. The primary research interest focused upon fundamental and applied characteristics of Crystal Engineering since 2013.
Currently, we are interested in the design and development of white-light-emitting MOFs for lighting technologies. The research interests also include solid-state reactivity, photochemistry, structural transformations. These materials are anticipated at addressing global challenges such as carbon capture, energy storage (molecular hydrogen and methane), and catalysis, lighting technologies, drug delivery, and bioimaging.
Abdulmalik Lab, with the department, provides the following facilities to the students and researchers: synthetic skill covering inorganic, solid-state, and organic chemistry (for ligand synthesis) and various crystallization techniques such as solvothermal, room temperature crystal growth, etc. They are selecting and mounting single crystals using an optical microscope. Irradiating single crystals can be conducted using a UV reactor. We work a range of characterization techniques such as single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction (SCXRD and PXRD), thermogravimetry analysis (TGA), various spectroscopic techniques: NMR, UV-Vis, IR, and fluorescent spectroscopy.
