Atufa Subla
Current role: Student of Economics
Location: Srinagar, India
Project name: PARUN ( TO LEARN IN KASHMIRI LANGUAGE)
Reason for doing the project: As a global citizen I believe it is my responsibility to work for the betterment of the people.
Project purpose: To educate the people of Kashmir especially the underprivileged women. According to the latest census, 68.74% of Kashmir’s population [the state I belong to] are literate and males are 20% more literate than females. Roughly 27.21 % of the state of Kashmir lives in rural areas where access to education is a key issue and one of the paramount problems of education in Kashmir is political uncertainty. Most educational institutions remain closed which damages the future of students and the education system. Creating a good education and learning system in Kashmir and providing adequate opportunities to the people of Kashmir will secure a more promising future for the people of Kashmir and the state.
All this experience has taught me that education is essential for everyone, and it is principally necessary during childhood. The importance of education lies in its consistency; education is a lifelong process that will end when we die. Our world cannot have a bright future if our society lacks education. I believe that education is not gaining knowledge from books or educational institutions but the knowledge but implementing the knowledge and understanding of the rights and responsibilities one has to their family, society, and nation particularly. It also strengthens one’s ability to perceive the world and combat wrongdoings such as injustice, corruption, and violence, among other things thus making the world a better place.
Project activities: Workshops, activities like peaceful rallies and asking people on the road about their opinions about the respective matter.
Scope and result of the project: 25 children of the age group 16-18 attended the workshop, 16 people discussed the matter on roads with us, 36 people attended the peaceful rally.
What problem did you face during the project implementation?
Insufficient Funds.
How did you overcome above problems?
Unfortunately, we couldn’t overcome the problem the right way and our team of 11 people ended up contributing within ourselves for the workshop and other activities.
What advice would you give to young people who want to influence their society?
I firmly abide by this quote by Romona Bilgram and this is the advice I would like to give to the people who want to influence their society.
“ MAKE DECISIONS WITH YOUR PEOPLE IN MIND”
Thus, concluding that when you want to run your project it should be in context of your country, state and people they should be the ones not only to understand your purpose but at the same time benefitting from your purpose.
