The CHAT Lab is located in Gardner Hall on North Carolina State University's Main Campus. We aim to improve the performance and decision-making of human-automation teams. You can learn more about the lab by using the navigation tabs on the left.
Interested in being a graduate student in the lab? I do plan to accept a new student for Fall 2026. Feel free to email me at colleen_patton@ncsu.edu with your CV and a brief note about your interest in the lab.
Interested in becoming an undergraduate research assistant through PSY499? Fill out this form. You will need your CV/resume to complete the form. You should expect to see a response within one week during the semester. If you do not see a response, be sure to check your spam folder or follow up with Dr. Patton.
Please note: in most cases, undergraduates are expected to enroll in at least one PSY499 credit for their first semester in the lab. A minimum of 3 hours per week for one semester is required for all research assistants, regardless of credit registration. Commitment to the lab for more than one semester is strongly encouraged.
