Privacy Policy — Chat Organizer

Chat Organizer ("the extension") is a browser extension that helps you organize your ChatGPT conversations with folders, a prompt library, and search. This policy explains exactly what data the extension touches and where it goes.
The short version: your data stays with you. We run no server and never receive your data. There is no account, no tracking, and nothing is sold.
WHAT THE EXTENSION STORES
To do its job, the extension stores the following locally in your browser (via chrome.storage.local):
• Folders you create and which chats you file in them (chat IDs and titles).
• Prompts you save to the prompt library.
• Settings (panel position, collapsed state).
• A search index of your chat titles, built when you click "scan history", so search can reach your full history.
This data never leaves your browser unless you choose to enable Google Drive sync (below).
READING THE CHATGPT PAGE
The extension reads the ChatGPT sidebar in your browser to show your chats, add folder controls, and build the title index. This reading happens entirely on your device. The contents of your conversations are not collected, transmitted, or stored by us.
OPTIONAL GOOGLE DRIVE SYNC
Sync is off by default. If you turn it on:
• The extension uses Google sign-in (chrome.identity) with the https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.appdata scope.
• This scope can only access a private, hidden "application data folder" in your own Google Drive — it cannot see the rest of your Drive.
• The extension writes a single backup file (chat-organizer-backup.json, containing your folders, prompts, and settings) to that folder, and reads it back when you restore.
• This data goes directly between your browser and your own Google Drive. It does not pass through, and is never stored on, any server operated by us.
• You can disconnect at any time, which revokes the access token.
Your use of Google Drive is also governed by Google's Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy).
WHAT WE DO NOT DO
• We do not run a backend server or receive your data.
• We do not use analytics, tracking, advertising, or fingerprinting.
• We do not sell, rent, or share your data with anyone.
• We do not collect your conversation contents.
DATA PORTABILITY AND DELETION
• You can export all your data to a JSON file at any time from the options page.
• To delete local data, remove the extension or clear its storage in your browser.
• To delete synced data, delete the backup file from your Drive (or use Disconnect and remove the app's access in your Google Account settings).
PERMISSIONS, AND WHY
• storage — to save your folders, prompts, and settings locally.
• identity + Drive appdata scope — only if you enable sync, to read/write the backup file in your own Drive.
• Host access to chatgpt.com / chat.openai.com — to show the panel and read your chat list on the page.
• Host access to googleapis.com / accounts.google.com — only used for the optional Drive sync.
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
If this policy changes, the effective date above will be updated.
