Kyle Punt: Tenor Saxaphone
Kyle grew up in Minnesota and has been playing jazz tenor saxophone since 6th grade. When a teacher of his gave him a CD in high school of Coltrane, Miles, and other luminaries, he became hooked on jazz. He received a music degree from the University of Wisconsin, River Falls and his masters from the University of Northern Iowa, studying under Chris Merz and Michael Conrad. His biggest influences are Coltrane, Sonny Rollings, Dexter Gorden, Wayne Shorter, Cannonball Adderley, Sonny Stitt, Michael Brecker, Chris Potter, Seamus Blake, and Chris Cheek. He has performed at a variety of venues from wedding and corporate events to farmer’s markets and dive bars. He has a full studio of students in sax, clarinet, and flute in Boulder and Longmont.
Claire Lucas: Voice
Claire grew up listening to the jazz her father, an avid jazz fan, always had playing in the house. She listened to and sang along with the greats like Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan and many others. She is a Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts (CCJA) trained musician. She has also studied with Denver vocalist Bailey Hinkley Grogan and Dawn Clement.
Besides singing with the Chase Street Jam, she also loves performing solo in retirement communities (www.ClaireLucasSings.com).
Singing is transcendent for Claire. “When I'm singing Dad's favorite jazz songs, I can almost feel him smiling down on me."
James Middleton: Double Bass
James Middleton is a versatile artist who adds a lyrical low end in a variety of musical settings. His primary instrument is fretless electric bass, adding upright as an alternate voice. James began playing piano at five years old and the classical cello at ten. He started playing electric bass in college. He has performed with Annie Booth, Dru Heller, Charles Blenzig, Jonathan Zimny and others as part of Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts. He attended Jazz Port Townsend Workshop and studied under John Clayton and Jon Hamar. He is studying with Dave Devine in the Jazz & American Improvised Music department at MSU Denver.
Craig Abramson: Piano
Craig has been playing keyboard instruments almost his entire life. Starting on piano, then getting his first synthesizer (the Moog Satellite!) while in high school. He spent his formative years playing the music of his progressive rock heroes. His keyboard playing continued into the 80’s culminating as one of the original members of Colorado’s Big Wigs, a band that explored original music and performance expressed through the emerging technology of the day. Today Craig is fully immersed in jazz, studying jazz piano with Charles Blenzig, participating in the Colorado Conservatory of the Jazz Arts, attending and playing at festivals and workshops and, of course, playing live with Chase Street Jam.
"Like mac and cheese, the Chase Street Jam is comfort food: a mix of well played jazz standards topped with the sultry smoky voice of the vocalist, Claire, which might act as a well placed dash of Spanish paprika. No matter how often you hear this band perform, you find yourself wanting more."
"Chase Street Jam brings outstanding talent and energy onstage - always a fun evening with great music! They have what makes any team excel - a shared passion - connecting them in musical excellence!"
