Cloudans are the fictional race that replaces humans. They live on planet Earth, and act and behave the same way humans do. They have similar cultures, practices, ideals, and emotions. Cloudans are described to have snow white skin while having any form of white to black hair. The term “Cloudan” is a remnant of the past as it perfectly described what Cloudans are in general. As the clouds, they come in different shapes and sizes, unlimited to a confined way, shape, or form.
Cloudans are a race that had evolved for millennia to eventually acquire supernatural powers from birth. These powers are called “Gifts,” making a Cloudan be considered “Gifted.” These powers can stem from something general like “electricity,” “fire,” or something more broad like “mineral,” “light,” or even more specific ones such as “instant combustion,” and “muscle mass.” They encapsulate what the main power point of their gift is, but it doesn’t explain the lengths these powers can reach.
Aside from the Gifted, there are so many Cloudans who aren’t born with these special powers. However, that doesn’t limit their capabilities as well, as they have adapted through generations through conflicts among their own kind that taught them and pressured them to create methods of controlling and manifesting greater strength from within them. These ways of power are mostly considered to be for combat and defense, however there are also some techniques across the planet that can be used for different purposes beyond combat. Across the globe, there are different groups of people with different cultures and techniques their people have crafted for generations and are equally as important as any historical remnants from their past, because it represents that past.
When a child is born, there is a chance they may be Gifted, even if neither parent possesses the trait. The inheritance follows these probabilities:
10% chance if both parents are non-Gifted
25% chance if one parent is Gifted
75% chance if both parents are Gifted
When a child does come to be a Gifted Cloudan, the specific gift a child inherits is almost never related to their parent(s)’ gift.
There is a phenomenon in which the case of twins, triplets, or other multiple births, all siblings share the same fate: either all are Gifted or all are non-Gifted. If they are Gifted, they will always possess the same power. For example, if one twin has “Plasma,” all siblings will also have “Plasma.”
The timing of a Gift’s awakening varies widely among Cloudans. Some experience an immediate resonance at birth, known as “Early Birds,” while others require time for their abilities to mature and awaken naturally. In rare cases, a Gift may remain dormant for over a decade, classifying the individual as a “Late Bloomer” who manifests their power far beyond the typical expected span.
In addition to the probability of a child being born a non-Gifted or a Gifted, they also have the chance to undergo a rare skin condition called "pigmentation."
Pigmentation is a rare genetic condition unique to Cloudans, offering the only natural difference of color to their bodies from their signature pure white skin. While the vast majority of Cloudans possess skin tones of the pure snow white, those with Pigmentation exhibit a subtle, natural tint of color across their bodies—never heavily saturated, but distinct enough to set them apart (e.g., Joannah Turner).
This trait also extends to their natural hair color. In the absence of Pigmentation, Cloudan hair is known to be strictly confined to the white-to-black spectrum. However, a Cloudan with Pigmentation is guaranteed to have naturally colored hair the same as their skin (blues, reds, golds, etc.), making it the only way to achieve vibrant hair tones without artificial dye.
Long ago, the Cloudans and the Umbra were close allies. The Umbra, whose homeland was a barren and unforgiving world, once lived among the Cloudans, drawn by the latter’s abundant resources on Earth. In many ways, the Umbra were like shadows to the Cloudans’ light—reflecting their beauty, culture, and strengths, yet existing in contrast.
Technologically, the Umbra were far more advanced than the Cloudans at the time. They shared their knowledge freely, helping the Cloudans evolve, while the Cloudans offered something the Umbra lacked: rich natural resources. This exchange fueled a golden age of cooperation, and it seemed the two races were destined for a shared, prosperous future.
However, after that era of prosperity, they vanished.
Despite clear historical records of their presence, the Umbra disappeared without a trace. Historians and researchers have long searched for answers, but the era following their disappearance is eerily blank—a gap in time with no records, no ruins, no whispers. Why the Umbra left, whether they were destroyed, hidden, or simply chose to fade away, remains one of the greatest mysteries in Cloudan history. For those who even know the name “Umbra,” their fate is still an unanswered question, lingering like a shadow over the past.
Established in the 18th century, the Cloudan Power Categorical System (CPCS) was originally designed to classify every Cloudan based solely on their physical power status, regardless of origin or heritage. Initially used to track population statistics across all nations under the World Government, the system gradually evolved into a tool for establishing globally accepted social statuses in modern times. The system divides Cloudans into 3 main groups as follows:
[ The Commons ]
Commons make up the vast majority of the Cloudan population. This group includes:
Non-Gifted individuals / those with no supernatural abilities.
Those who learn and apply trained techniques or physical prowess.
People with powers that don’t fit the official definition of a “Gift," likely as they aren't inherited
Despite lacking innate supernatural gifts, it's very much within the ability of the Commons to be highly capable through skill, discipline, or unique methods that can be equal or even surpass Gifted Cloudans depending how far they go with their methods of power.
[ The Gifted ]
The Gifted are born with supernatural abilities that defy conventional explanation. These powers range from the mundane to the extraordinarily powerful, and their strength depends entirely on how the user wields them. There’s no strict boundary between “strong” and “weak” gifts—what matters is mastery, creativity, and intent.
[ The Advanced ]
The Advanced classification transcends the Common/Gifted divide. What defines an Advanced Cloudan is the ability to physically transform their body through rare, highly demanding techniques. These methods excite the user’s molecular structure, pushing their physical performance far beyond natural limits.
This transformation can be achieved by both Commons and Gifted, leading to two subtypes:
Advanced Commons: Power through disciplined transformation.
Advanced Gifted: Enhanced abilities combined with physical metamorphosis.
Despite their different origins, both are regarded equally under the CPCS as Advanced, representing the pinnacle of physical and often supernatural evolution as the lines between both Commons and Gifted blur through this category of Cloudan.
