A health and lifestyle motivated app created based on a governmental initiative in sunny Singapore. ☀️
A study of the current Healthy365 app was conducted, with a primary focus on its booking feature and Events page.
A list of pain points was derived from the App Store, as well as myself (as an end user who has booked classes through Healthy365):
I highly resonate with this user - I travelled all the way to my first ever lesson only to realise it had been cancelled. That was when I realised that there was a WhatsApp group for regular participants, whereby the instructor would inform participants on whether the class would go ahead as planned.
📌HMW allow participants/users (new and current) to be informed of up-to-date changes to the classes without having to give away their personal details?
After looking at a previous listing, clicking on the back button results in user returning to the main page. User can no longer view previous listing s/he just saw. For user who would like to book the class, this results in a high memory load on the user as s/he has to look for the class again.
Once you've attended a class, the class that was last booked is not being noted anywhere in the app. For a user who would like to rebook the same class, it requires a high memory load on the user to recall what class they took.
📌HMW reduce users' memory load so that they can go back to the classes they were last looking at or would like to rebook?
💡Solution #1
📌HMW allow participants/users (new and current) to be informed of up-to-date changes to the classes without having to give away their personal details?
Upon booking of classes, participants are added into an in-app group with other participants, which allows for a two-way conversation between the instructor and the participants
💡Solution #2
📌HMW reduce users' memory load so that they can go back to the classes they were last looking at or would like to rebook?

If only I could...
Understand from the Business POV 🧐
If there was one thing I could do to enhance this case study, it would be to understand from the business user point of view why some of the text on the Events page is needed, or question the necessity of some text. Personally, I felt that there was a lot of text on the primary Events page ,which can result in a higher cognitive load for the end user. However, in this redesign, the assumption was made that all text is necessary and mandatory.
Some takeaways:
Refer to "Competitor" apps - See how they're doing it, especially if they seem to be doing it better
This case study has been done with the help of feedback from users on the App store, as well as from a user myself. Moreover, some of my in-depth research and comparative studies before the proposed solutions came from the Classpass app, which allows users to book lifestyle and fitness classes at studios.
Accessibility design is important - Design for the "Blue Zone"
A future action would be to dive into the tone of writing in this app. Since this is a fitness app, the importance of producing an exciting and friendly tone is crucial in engaging the end users. Moreover, as Singapore is growing towards a "Blue Zone", having highly accessible and readable text is of great importance. Not only am I speaking about colour or font size, language is also important for some of our seniors who don't really speak English very well. That's inclusive design.
