Standby Clock ("the App") is developed and maintained by Billy Jo. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and your choices regarding that information.
Information We Collect
Location Data: The App uses your device's approximate or precise location (via Android location services) solely to determine your local weather conditions, which are then displayed on the standby screen along with the time and date.
The App does not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, files, browsing history, or any other personal identifiers. The App does not require you to create an account or sign in.
How We Use Information
Location data is used in real time to request current weather and temperature information from a third-party weather service (Open-Meteo, open-meteo.com). The App does not store your location history. Each weather request uses your current location at that moment; no location log is kept on your device or transmitted to us for storage.
Data Sharing
Your approximate coordinates are sent directly from your device to the Open-Meteo weather API in order to retrieve weather data for display in the App. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We do not use any advertising or analytics SDKs.
Data Storage
Your display preferences (background color, text color, font, brightness settings) are stored only locally on your device using Android's standard app storage. This information never leaves your device and is not accessible to us.
Permissions Used by the App
Location (fine/coarse): to fetch local weather.
Internet / Network State: to contact the weather service.
Foreground Service, Wake Lock: to keep the standby display active and the device awake while charging.
Receive Boot Completed: to resume monitoring automatically after the device restarts.
Notifications: required by Android to run the background monitoring service.
Display Over Other Apps: to show the standby clock screen while charging.
None of these permissions are used to collect, transmit, or sell personal data beyond what is described above.
Your Choices
You can revoke the App's location permission at any time from your device's Settings, though this will disable the weather display feature. Uninstalling the App permanently removes all locally stored preferences from your device.
Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Data Security
Location data is transmitted over secure HTTPS connections. Because the App does not operate its own servers or user accounts, there is no centrally stored database of personal user data to protect.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
