A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has filed a charge sheet against activist Teesta Setalvad, retired Director General of Police R.B. Sreekumar, and former police officer Sanjeev Bhatt for reportedly "fabricating evidence" and engaging in "forgery" in cases connected to the 2002 Gujarat riots.

The charge sheet, which exceeds 6,000 pages, also accuses Sreekumar and Bhatt of having created fake documents while in service to implicate Modi and others in the riots. These documents, says the SIT, were used by Teesta Setalvad to file cases against the State government.

The SIT has named more than 90 witnesses, including former police officer Rahul Sharma and senior Congress leader Shankar Singh Gohil. The charge sheet accuses Teesta Setalvad and Sreekumar of tutoring witnesses, of Teesta having received Rs.30 lakh, and having worked to spread misunderstanding among people in relief camps that Gujarat was unsafe for minorities.

Nearly three months after a British-era bridge crashed in Gujarat's Morbi, killing 135 people, Jaysukh Patel, the top boss of the company hired for the maintenance and repair of the bridge, has been named the prime accused in a charge-sheet.

Former Gujarat Intelligence Bureau (IB) chief Rajinder Kumar has been charged with the murder of a young college student and three serving officers accused of conspiracy in staging the police encounter in which she was killed.

On September 20, 2022, the Gujarat Special Investigation Team filed a charge sheet against Setalvad accusing her and others of colluding in an effort to implicate Modi and other government officials with crimes punishable with death.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a sixth supplementary charge sheet against four persons in connection with the seizure of 500 kg of heroin, smuggled from Pakistan via sea route, at Salaya port in Gujarat. Two dozen accused have been arrested in the case so far, while a hunt is on for nine others.

In addition to the provisions of the Information Technology Act, the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the anti-terror law Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), 465 (forgery), and 471 (fraud), the agency has also filed the supplementary charge sheet in a special court.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed the Gujarat police to file a charge sheet by Friday against Patel quota stir leader Hardik Patel for allegedly instigating the community to kill policemen and adopt violent means to wage war against the Gujarat government.

The trumped up charge against Sharma fell somewhere between destruction of evidence and its fabrication but lacked any substance and failed to withstand proper scrutiny. But though the Gujarat government failed to make out a case against the police officer, its ham-handed efforts at persecuting him for actually trying to serve the cause of justice will only strengthen the suspicion that it has something to hide.

The Ahmedabad city police on Thursday filed a 1,684-page chargesheet in the ISKCON bridge accident case, where a Jaguar driver mowed down nine people and injured 13 others on July 20. The police have listed 191 witnesses in the case and confessional statements of eight of them form part of the chargesheet.

Tathya Patel (20), the driver of the Jaguar, and his father Pragnesh Patel (44) have been charged under Indian Penal Code sections 279 (rash driving), 337, 338 (hurt and grievous hurt caused by rash and negligent act), 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 506 (2) (criminal intimidation), 114 (abetment), and 188 (disobedience to order promulgated by public servant) as well as under Motor Vehicle Act sections 177 (breaking traffic laws), 184 (dangerous driving) and 134 (b).

Although the chargesheet has been filed, the investigation in the case continues under provisions of Code of Criminal Procedure section 173 (8) (power of the police to conduct further investigation, after laying the final report). Pragnesh is more specifically facing charges of criminal intimidation at the site of the offence.

City police commissioner Prem Vir Singh, addressing a press conference, said that among the pieces of evidence being relied on in the chargesheet was a report of the event data recorder (EDR) system of the Jaguar as received from the company and a video of the crash as recorded by an eyewitness and validated by a forensic science laboratory (FSL).

Among those arraigned as eyewitnesses is a biker who captured the crash on a body-worn camera, and the video footage captured, too, has been made part of the chargesheet, Singh confirmed to The Indian Express.

Addressing a press conference in Gandhinagar, Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi also said the police will file a charge sheet in the case in 10 days and the trial will be held in a fast track court.

''Police will file a charge sheet in the case in 10 days and the trial will be held in a fast track court,'' Sanghavi said, adding that the government will also appoint a special public prosecutor to fight the case.

According to the CBI charge-sheet in the encounter case, which leaves out some important questions, five Gujarat cops fired 70 rounds on the four persons they branded as terrorists. Sheela Bhatt presents a summary of the CBI charge-sheet of the "extra-judicial" killings that are haunting the Gujarat government.

The charge-sheet in the encounter deaths of Ishrat Jahan and three other was filed on July 3 in the Ahmedabad high court by the Central bureau of Investigation. As reported on rediff.com, the charge-sheet has avoided a few important issues but it gives a chilling account of the chronology of the crime committed by seven Gujarat policemen and a team of Intelligence Bureau officers.

One will have to wait till the CBI files a supplementary charge-sheet to know if the IB's senior officer Rajendra Kumar is nailed for his alleged role in the encounter. There is extraordinary, behind-the-scenes, pressure being applied to not take on Rajendra Kumar because ultimately, the argument goes, it will be IB the institution that will be rocked.

Gandhinagar: The SG Highway accident case involving the main accused Tathya Patel will be investigated directly under the supervision of the city police commissioner. Charge sheet in this case will be produced in just one week and the trial will be conducted in a fast track court. A special public prosecutor shall be appointed for this case. These decisions were taken in a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister on this issue.

In the 'charge sheet', the grand old party also mentioned the recent Morbi bridge collapse incident which claimed 135 lives, and dubbed as "unconstitutional" the release of 11 convicts in the Bilkis Bano gang-rape case and murder of seven members of her family during the Gujarat riots.

"At a time when the BJP is working to divert the attention of the public from main issues affecting them, this charge sheet has been released to draw their attention back to these issues," former Union minister and senior Congress leader Bharatsinh Solanki said at a press conference.

On the remission granted to 11 convicts in the Bilkis Bano case, Congress said the government ignored established rules and conventions to release them. "The decision has unmasked the BJP and its concern for the safety and security of women," the charge sheet said.

In sarcastic remarks, the Congress 'charge sheet' said the "achievements" of the BJP government include enriching a few pro-regime industrialists at the cost of the government exchequer, destroying the state's economy, widespread increase in poverty and rampant rise in prices of essential commodities.

The 'charge sheet' also referred to inflation, rising poverty, loss of confidence among investors, debt trap, unemployment crisis, ignored healthcare with reduction of the health budget, rampant malnutrition and a 90 per cent shortage of total specialists. The opposition party also claimed that Gujarat lagged behind other states in educational indices.

The 'charge sheet' also raised the issues of crony capitalism, scams, rampant corruption, electricity supply issues, ignorance of tribal welfare, lack of security among Dalits, law and order situation, exploitation of workers, mistreatment of government employees and "demolition" of the Panchayati Raj system.

In policing on the Indian subcontinent, a chargesheet is prepared after first information reports (FIRs), and charges an individual for (some or all of) the crimes specified in those reports.[1][unreliable source] [2][3]

Once the chargesheet has been submitted to a court of law, the court decides as to who among the accused has sufficient prima facie evidence against them to be put on trial. After the court pronounces its order on framing of charges, prosecution proceedings against the accused begin in the judicial system.[4]

While the accused, Mohammad Kasim Stimberwala and Ubed Ahmed Mirza, were held on charges of planning a 'lone wolf' attack on a Jewish synagogue in Khadia area here, the charge sheet claimed that they had also planned attacks on the Jewish community in Mumbai.

The arrested duo were in touch with el-Faisal and Shafi Armar to plan attacks on Jews in India, and conducted recce of some of the targets. They were even planning to send radicalised youths outside India to take part in terrorist acts, the charge sheet said.

Both have been charged with IPC sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 121-A (sedition) and 125 (waging war against any Asiatic power in alliance with India). They were also booked under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

Jammu, Dec 10 (PTI) The Jammu and Kashmir Police's Crime Branch has filed a charge sheet against the director of Gujarat-based Armada Bazar Private Limited for allegedly cheating two investors of Rs 3 crore, the agency said on Sunday.

The Economic Offences Wing of Crime Branch (Jammu) filed the charge sheet in court against Parshuram Rajnetbhai Pal -- a resident of Ahmedabad in Gujarat -- for hatching a criminal conspiracy and cheating two locals after luring them to invest Rs 3 crore in the company, it said in a statement.

The case stems from a written complaint lodged by two locals -- Sanna Gandogra and Sanjay Kumar Gupta -- claiming that they were approached by Armada Bazar Private Limited to make a refundable investment in the company, the Crime Branch said.

The company claimed to be in the business of authorised products and services having grocery and daily utility items.

An agreement was signed between the parties under which the accused would pay Rs 12 lakh per month for 36 months to the complainants and 4 per cent of the net monthly billing of the "mart".

In their complaint, the victims alleged that the accused paid Rs 12 lakh for two months and stopped paying the remainder. The accused later openly refused to return the victims' money and threatened to eliminate them and their family members if they filed a case, the statement said.

The preliminary Crime Branch verification after a complaint was received found the allegations to be prima-facie substantiated, leading to the registration of a formal case.

The investigators gathered all material evidence, recorded the statements of the complainants and witnesses and established the offences under sections 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code against Pal, it said.

The Crime Branch said further investigation is underway to identify the other accused. e24fc04721
