As lot of people have noticed, the hair color in the character creator doesn't look very much like the hair color in the game play. I took a number of pictures comparing hair in creator to hair in game.

The hair seems to be be able to do what I want, but of course it drops to the characters feet. Oddly, it still appears correctly oriented and moves with the head, just down at the feet. The drop at least though, was expected.

Hi @markrmiller

I am not expert on PhysX neither,

Adam and Michelle are definitely exports on PhysX, but I am not sure whom from NVIDIA would have time to take a look

I think you could send the .usd file to @WendyGram first?

let the NVIDIA expert to comment on the right way to add PhysX manually?

and if PhysX hair can work with USD SkelAnimation?

Hi @markrmiller , did you ever write up a blog or similar describing the process you are using in a bit more detail? Kit 105 has included some new support, but I am still getting the behavior you described above of the hair falling to the ground (for me it jumps up and down in unpredictable ways by turning on/off debug views). This is still happening in 105.

I think 105 has the required features - its just they are not reliable when I tried them. The colliders do seem to move with the bones now. But for me, the hair would drop to the ground after a while (height zero). It would follow the shape of the head (it thought it was on the head by the looks of things) but it was rendered at ground level. That is, it felt bugging rather than missing functionality. I reported in the forums, provided a test case etc, but no word. So I am not holding my breath. (See this thread for more info, especially towards the end VRoid Studio -> Omniverse with hair a cloth physics? )

Hey there - I'll keep it brief, it's been a hell of long time since we got anything new in the character creator, the last being Vinn Atrius's hair back in 2017, I believe. It's been a hot minute and I for one would really love an expansion to our options in 2021.

I can't remember a time when this wasn't being requested, folk would really appreciated being able to create older characters through the use of aged complexions. They're in the game and ready to go - Just need to be made available for player use.

This is a more experimental one on my part; Quite possibly the most requested thing in terms of character creation are 'beast races' such as Trandoshans, Wookiees, etc. Naturally, this is impossible for a great many reasons - But I may have a compromise to offer in the form of 'Beast Race Armor Sets'. When I say this, I mean being able to wear a cosmetic headpiece that gives you the outward appearance of whatever race you desire, being able to wear a Trandoshan head for instance. Naturally you could also expand this to offer feet and hand options too through gloves and boots. Since headpieces are automatically removed in romance scenes, there's a built in fix to the 'human lips' issue.

A personal plea of mine, as a bearded fellow I'm not exactly down the creek without a paddle when it comes to facial hair options, but we're still missing a good stubble complexion. The one we have in game is far too light to the point where it's barely visible. What I'd suggest is a version much more similar to Revan's face texture across his many unmasked appearances in the game.

This is a big one, perhaps even the biggest - Why do Cathar not gain access to all human hairs and beards? Why can Mirialans not have beards? Why do cyborgs have a completely separate set of facial hair that isn't available to regular humans? Why do Cyborgs have entirely different head options that aren't available to regular humans or other races? These questions are maddening. There needs to be a complete overhaul to how these options are divided and many more need to be opened up to their fellow races where possible.

Smart Hair is designed to provide the most realistic yet performance-friendly Hair, Brows, and Beard for digital humans in games and films. The card based hair meshes are small in size, economical in texture resolution, and efficient for real-time rendering.

When the smart hair mesh spans across different areas, as shown in the following table, or the partial mesh drifts away from the skin, then the skin weights can be incorrectly assign. This will be problematic when the character assumes certain facial expressions and animations.

The Smart Hair, including the eyebrows and beards, can be exported along with the character to external 3D tools for animation. However, since the skin weight settings are not included, the hair's morphing sliders will be exported for further use in 3rd party applications. The facial expressions and hair morph sliders must work together to animate comprehensive facial expressions.

In this game you don't purchase hair styles as permanent additions to your account. The only option to get something which is not part of the default selection in the character creator is to use a self-styled hair kit (or total makeover kit) to change the hairstyle on one character, but that will only affect that one character and if you want to make any other changes (including going back to the style you had) you'll have to use another kit to change it again.

Also bear in mind that hairstyles different by race and gender, both in the character creator and the expanded selection offered by the self-style hair kit, so styles you see on one character may not be available for others.

If so it's one of the exclusive styles available by using a Self-Style Hair Kit. As explained above you won't find it in the character creator, if you want it on another character you'll have to use another hair kit to get it.

There's only one type of style kit and they aren't random. Using one gives you a menu just like the hair style section of the character creator but with more styles and colours and then you choose which ones you want. The kit won't be used up until you confirm the changes, so you can play around with different options to find something you like.

The shader uses a combination of a VCC_LitAlpha base, VCC_Hair for the main hair strands. To provide the thickness effect it eliminates the transparency issues using a custom hair cap rig with an applied alpha brush touch up such that it conforms to the hair style. The alpha brush allow for direct touch ups in the unity editor using the VCC Character Creator product.

The hairstyles chosen are very limited and in some respects, rather stereotypical as well. I was really hoping for more selections. For a game with such detail put into it, it does feel very limiting in regard to many of the cutomization options.

Either I need someone with more java experience than myself to give me a hand getting it to work with jabs model loader or I'll have to release a standalone version and then create a mod adding my hair styles to jabs model loader as wigs that can be found on the map.

One big hurdle to deal with is character creation. The creation menu uses sprites to show hair. This could be done in such a way that the character screen shows bald hair, but rather chooses custom options. Of course with some work, a 3D model can be shown.

Another thing to factor in is the potential issue of custom hair and multiplayer. If the data is sent as a String via C2S / S2C, then there is no issue with custom hair as long as the client can handle invalid hair types.

The only problem that I'm having right now is getting my model loader integrated into yours. I had given up on trying to make the character creation screen show the 3d model of the character(its out of my skill range), so the character will unfortunately show as a bald character. And I've also done a few multiplayer tests, if the server has the mod and the client doesn't then the character is shown bald(the tests were done on v32.xx). I'm thinking though that I may be able to get them added to the game via your model loader running along side my survivorfactory and lua files. But I'm trying to limit downloads for players. I wouldn't want them to have to download your files, my files and then a mod, just to get hair working. I've been trying to hardcode my models into your loader with no luck. I always get errors. As of now I get 3 errors all on line 55. I literally just need to add my models to your loader to get to a release state, I could release a standalone but, most people use your loader and as of now they are not compatible. I dont want to do that, I feel it would toss a wrench into everything you've accomplished especially with your new release with clothing support.

Hey, as you said, not to panic when it shows your character bald in character creation, so I didn't panic. However, after picking "Hippie" and making the character, I was still bald in game. Any suggestions? 006ab0faaa
