Meet the Dance Educator

Akhira Jeter is originally from Brooklyn, NY though she has lived and received much of her formal dance training in Columbia, SC at the Palmetto Center for the Arts. Akhira has competed in the Youth American Grand Prix , traveled internationally to Kiev, Ukraine to expand her ballet training, performed professionally in multiple dance companies in NYC, and has taught in private studios, dance intensives, and non-profit arts programs for over 7 years. Akhira is well versed in many forms of dance but especially enjoys afro-jazz, ballet, and contemporary. Akhira is a graduate of Coker University with a Bachelors of Arts in Dance Performance and Choreography. Akhira has danced in the professional works of both Seán Curran and the Urban Bush Women dance company. Upon graduating, Akhira married husband Joshua Jeter and moved to Manhattan, NY where she danced and taught professionally before returning to Columbia, SC to pursue her passion of making quality dance education accessible to all students. Most recently, Akhira has taught for two years in the public school setting while balancing teaching and coaching at several competitive dance studios. Akhira is excited to start her new journey as the dance department educator for both Chapin Middle and Chapin High School.
