Every organization has a moment like this. Someone leaves, or goes on leave, or something happens in their life that has nothing to do with work. Suddenly there's an empty chair, a team looking around for direction, and decisions that can't wait.
That's when people call me.
I step in and lead IT at the level you need, whether that's the top seat or a manager role in the middle. I work as part of your team, follow your priorities, and keep things moving so nobody has to scramble.
A director or manager is on medical, parental, or personal leave
Someone left and the permanent hire will take months
You have a gap in the middle of the org and the team is drifting
A new leader is starting and you want the handoff to be smooth
You need someone steady while you figure out what's next
Week one. I listen. I meet the team, learn what's in flight, and find out what can't be dropped.
First month. I take over the day to day: approvals, budget questions, vendor calls, project decisions, team check-ins. Your people know who to go to.
The whole time. I keep leadership informed in plain language, so there are no surprises.
The handoff. When your leader returns or a permanent hire arrives, I hand over clean notes, a clear picture of where things stand, and a team that's still on track. I can also help with hiring and onboarding if that's useful.
Someone in the seat, so decisions keep getting made
A team that stays focused and supported
Projects and budgets that don't stall
A smooth return or a well-prepared next leader
Usually a defined period, anywhere from a few weeks to several months. We agree on the start, the end, and what success looks like up front. If things change, we adjust.
I've spent over 20 years leading IT in municipal government. I know what it's like to be the one everyone looks to when things get uncertain. I'm not here to take over or reinvent your shop. I'm here to keep it steady until you're ready for the next step.
See what's really happening. Plan the priorities. Organize people and roles. Transform only what needs to change. During coverage, most of the work is See and Organize. If I spot bigger issues, I'll flag them and we can talk about whether you want help.
If you have a gap coming, or one you didn't plan for, let's talk.
