SOFT MATTER ENGINEERING AND MICROFLUIDICS LAB

Many systems, such as polymer solutions, colloidal suspensions, different types of biofluids ( e.g., blood, DNA suspensions), etc., show complex non-linear responses under some deformation. It can be readily acknowledged that these systems are being routinely used in our daily life and in many cutting-edge technological applications. Therefore, from the fundamental and practical point of view, it is necessary to study how the microscopic structure of these systems influences their macroscopic behavior. Our lab aims to investigate these systems in different length and time scales, ranging from macro to molecular, using both numerical simulations and experimental tools. The numerical investigation encompasses a wide range of simulation techniques, such as computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and Brownian dynamics, whereas experimental techniques involve micro-particle image velocimetry, soft lithography, single polymer dynamics, molecular imaging, etc. While the experimental procedure uses the latest microfluidic techniques, the simulation method utilizes the continuum and molecular level descriptions of these complex systems, thereby leading to a complete and better understanding of these systems.
