Have you ever caught yourself in a moment of boasting? It’s human nature—we love to talk about our achievements and successes. Studies even show that sharing about ourselves releases dopamine, the brain's feel-good chemical. But as fulfilling as it may seem, constant self-promotion can be off-putting to others. Instead, love calls us to shift our focus outward, celebrating and uplifting those around us rather than solely seeking recognition for ourselves.
Love doesn’t seek to elevate itself; it seeks to elevate others. Think about a time someone spoke highly of you in front of others—maybe your spouse bragged about your kindness, or a parent proudly shared your accomplishments. It feels far more rewarding to be honored by someone else than to toot our own horn.
This week, I challenge you to find ways to brag about the people in your life. Praise a coworker to your boss, give a heartfelt compliment to your spouse, or share a positive experience with a local business on social media. Let’s make room for uplifting others instead of focusing on ourselves.
2 Corinthians 10:17 tells us, “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.” If there is any boasting worth doing, it is in the goodness of God. My cousin and I keep a shared prayer list, and at the bottom, we have a “victory list” where we write down answered prayers. Over time, this list has grown long, serving as a beautiful reminder of God’s faithfulness.
Similarly, in the Bible, people often built altars or memorials to commemorate God’s work. Inspired by this tradition, our craft project this week is creating a Brag Board—a visual way to celebrate God’s blessings and answered prayers. Whether you use it to reflect on your own journey or as a gift for a loved one, this project will remind you to focus on what truly deserves recognition.
Here's a fun twist. If you and your partner are going through this Bible study together, you could make each craft project a date night. On date night, each of you make one of these brag boards, and fill it with sweet things you want to brag on your partner about. For example, Gus always takes out the trash without being asked; Kira is a great big sister; Scarlet is kind-hearted; Jack is great at fixing things.

Love doesn’t demand the spotlight; it rejoices in the good of others. This week, let’s redirect our need for recognition and turn it into praise—both for the people in our lives and for God’s unending faithfulness.
