I like to add personal touches to my tassels to make them extra special. You know, the necklaces that your babies bought you from a gumball machine when they were five. You don't really want to wear it every day, but you can't seem to part with it either. I've also used a Mother's Day necklace in one of my tassels that had my older kids names on it. On the right is a tassel I made with an old, colorful seed bead necklace that I rarely wore. I also wrapped the top of the tassel with a seed bead bracelet that I did not use often. My personal tassel is pictured at the top, and I used one of my baby's head band bows to wrap around the top of my tassel. These little trinkets aren't required to make a tassel, I just like the sentimental touch it gives to my design. Another good idea is to make a "word of the year" beaded chain to add to your tassel, or a cross charm. In addition to the sentimental value these items add to your tassel, they also serve as a reminder to pray for your loved ones during your reading time.
The free PDF download below includes a devotional to share with your group during this project. In short, the devotional speaks of the scraps of ribbon and yarn we use to make the tassel. They were pieces that may have seemed like trash, with no use or value. Often, there are elements of our lives that we treat the same way. We sometimes believe we don't have enough or that we aren't enough to do what God has called us to do. But, the truth is, you have everything you need to be the person God created you to be. Sometimes, we need to seek Him to discover our true purpose. When we realize that the plans He has for us are so much simpler than the expectations we place on ourselves, we can break free from the pressure to meet a standard we were never expected to reach.
