HAI'22 workshop on
Cognitive
Human-agent
Interaction
Aims and scope
CHAI workshop will focus on cognitive models for social interaction between humans and artificial agents. A cognitive model refers to an explicit representation of human intelligence.
Humans are not reactive agents that show a fixed response to a certain input but make decisions with value judgments based on manipulating their internal representations of the world and others. Cognitive models enable artificial agents to interact with humans while considering human social cognition, leading to effective, long-term, and trustworthy collaboration.
Cognitive modeling is also promising for the explainable AI (XAI) problem. While recent data-driven AI approaches have expanded the possibility of robotics and intelligent systems, it also raises problems of the incomprehensibility of system behavior or misalignment between humans and systems. Existing work begins to tackle these problems but mainly focuses on technological aspects for AI practitioners. Cognitive models can contribute to establishing mutual understandings between users and systems.
This workshop targets broad research fields including robotics, artificial intelligence, cognitive science, and social psychology. It covers various trials for the fundamental studies of human social interaction, computational modeling, and practical applications, which is beyond the traditional research area on human-robot interaction and will certainly contribute to the emergence of the HAI community.
