Bad Wilf launched in 2010 as a South London-based Dr Who podcast. Over the years, it has evolved into so much more. We cover movies, TV shows, audio dramas, news, reviews, interviews and general nonsense. We may not be your cup of tea, but we could very well be your shot of whiskey. – Summary from BadWilf.com
I met Martyn and Gerrod (centre and right, above) at a tavern in Tottenham Court Road. The crowd that night was mostly Dr Who fans, and by that point a few of them had really got up to speed issuing forth podcasts.
Starting with Bad Wilf episode 22, I recorded loads of chats with Martyn and Gerrod. I relaunched the website a couple of times as well and reworked the episode art for the first hundred eps, more or less. Martyn has swung us some lovely press access opportunities and it's been a buzz talking to famous creative types for the podcast.
The name references a couple of bits from the Dr Who TV programme: the mysterious, cosmic meme Bad Wolf mixed with Wilf, a lovely grandad played in the programme by Bernard Cribbins.
Over time, I've leaned back toward Channel 26 but the Bad Wilf family keeps evolving:
Martyn Havell is a cool chillmonkey – he's great at getting himself hooked up for interviews but doesn't try to drive them. He creates a nice space for the talent to kick back and hang out.
Gerrod Charles joined Martyn as co-host at the very start of the podcast. He's a father of two, avid gamer, nascent photographer. Check out his vlogs on YouTube.
Sam Michael is a working comedian and in addition to Bad Wilf, he does the podcast Comedians Talking About Football.
Chris Walker-Thompson is an actor, voice-over artist and impressionist who's done work for Big Finish and speaks with quite a number of familiar names in his podcast More than Just An Impression.
