Clutch Replacement

First I drained the oil


The old oil can be used to soak the new clutch


The clutch cover needs removing, clutch cable too


Cover removed


The gasket will need to be removed


The clutch was previously replaced and assembled incorrectly


After removing the clutch lifter plate, the spring length is checked


Removal of the centrifugal oil filter


Remove the centre circlip


Remove the pressure plate


Remove the clutch disks and clutch pads


I write on the clutch basket the mileage

Reinstalled


The old springs were just shy of the limit, but I replace them anyway


I cover the internals whilst I remove the old gasket


I remove the old gasket from the cover too


The oil filter is a reusable centrifugal type, so it need cleaning


Old gasket removed and cleaned


Oil filter body cleaned and reinstalled


Washer and locknut reinstalled, need to lock the gears to tighten it fully


A copper coin (not magnetic, most modern 2p coins are copper coated steel) can be used to jam gears without damage


Locknut set to correct torque, oil filter cover reinstalled


New gasket installed, Hylomar Blue is not strictly necessary, but there will be no leaks if you use it


Cover reinstalled


Bolted down


Clutch cable reattached


Clutch adjusted


Funnel cleaned (no sense flushing rubbish into your engine)


Fill with oil


Shell AX7, 10w40


Just below full, job done
