Since I joined the Chemical Engineering department, I am interested in the dynamics of dispersed systems commonly called suspensions (liquid containing particles, drops, vesicles, self-assembled objects), especially in the presence of walls. The aim is to predict the macroscopic transport properties (suspension heterogeneity, turbulence) and local dynamic quantities (effective viscosity, normal stresses, osmotic pressure) in flowing suspensions compared to pure fluids, as a function of the properties of the dispersed phase (size, interfacial forces). More recently, I am interested in understanding the interaction between molecules or nanoscale objects and soft interfaces.
