In regard to assessing student learning outcomes, the researchers split the study into 2 groups. Both were identical in that they consisted of a programming course, pre-test and post test. However in one group, the children are exposed to AI activities while in the other they are not. This way, a comparison was made to assess the learning outcomes of each group and to determine whether the AI activities had made a difference on learning or not. The researchers used already present questionnaires/assessments for their pre and post surveys. I liked this approach of using questionnaires/assessments that already exist in the literature, because it allows for the surveys to be solid in terms of gathering data and assessing learning, as opposed to creating a custom survey that hasn’t been tested before. In the Computational Thinking Test, the survey involved completing exercises, whereas in the Conception of Artificial and Human Minds, the survey was a questionnaire. The surveys in total lasted one hour throughout the entire study from November 2022 to May 2023.
