A Brief Note on Postpositions
Languages like English use prepositions to show the relationship between a noun and other words in the sentence. They come before the noun.
Here's an example:
The book is on the table. ("On" tells us the location of the book)
Hindi, on the other hand, uses postpositions. These little words come after the noun they relate to.
Here's an example in Hindi:
किताब (kitaab) मेज़ (mej) पर (par) है (hai). (Literal translation: book table on is. "Par" indicates location here)
Just like पर, the post-position में (mein) is an equivalent of in and is used to describe the location of a person, be it in a larger area like a country or a city, or a smaller area like a school or a classroom. The use of postpositions help us build the meaning of a sentence in English.
Choose 3 people from the video and write in Hindi to introduce which city each person is from and where the city is located using postpositions such as “Poonam is from Delhi. Delhi is in North India. Delhi is next to Haryana."
पूनम दिल्ली से है। दिल्ली उत्तरी भारत में है। दिल्ली हरियाणा के बग़ल में है।
Read the sentences below and click 'True' if the sentences use postpositions correctly.
