Patricia Borgman has been drawing and painting since about the age of three, when her mother began supplying her and her siblings with art materials. In young adulthood, she began painting with watercolors, gaining practice in her 30s that led to a coveted membership in the Santa Barbara Art Association. She subsequently participated in a number of group and individual shows, for which she earned recognition by the Santa Barbara News-Press on several occasions.
During this time, she won an Artist-in-Residence position with Storyteller, an unhoused children’s preschool in Santa Barbara. She still enjoys teaching art to children, finding inspiration in their lack of inhibition and their creativity.
In her late 50s Patricia began experimenting with acrylics, continuing to focus mainly on landscapes and architectural forms. Today she enjoys alternating between watercolor and acrylic painting, having most recently depicted structures on the Stanford University campus and natural settings on the Central Coast between Morro Bay and Santa Barbara.
Among the many painters who have influenced her, Patricia counts the California watercolorists Emil Kosa and Milford Zornes, as well as the acrylic painter Marcia Burtt.
Patricia welcomes commissions of a natural or architectural nature as she continues to divide her time between Palo Alto/Menlo Park, Los Osos and Santa Barbara.
In addition to painting, Patricia’s passions include her two daughters, her partner, travel (most recently, to Morocco), reading and thrifting.
