January 23, 2012 at 10:16 PM That Nokia ring tone is a few bars (13-15) from a guitar piece by Tarrega, "Gran Vals", well-known to classical guitarists. There may even be a transcription for violin or viola. I wouldn't be surprised if Lukas Kmit had come across it during his career.
Unconsidered comments on YouTube and even a suggestion in a well-known UK daily newspaper (who should have known better) that Lukas may have been in cahoots with Nokia are of course completely out of order, not only in view of the possibility that he was familiar with the ring tone as an independent piece of music, and as an experienced musician was quite able to improvise when the occasion demanded, but that such a putative association with a commercial company, if true, would not have done his valued professional career and name any good whatsoever.

January 24, 2012 at 06:07 PM A couple of months ago I traveled to Nebraska to play solo violin for my aunt's wedding ceremony. It was a well attended wedding in a small chapel and my aunt, the bride, was an hour late.
As my prelude stretched from 15 minutes of light pieces to 75 minutes, with me on the side of the altar wracking my brains for every short piece I could think of, the standing room only crowd stood in complete silence. It was a wedding after all, and applause seemed inappropriate.
Suddenly, just as I was playing the last note of my second version of the Ave Maria (Bach-Gounoud), someone's cell phone rang with the opening strains of the Nebraska Cornhusker fight song. I guess growing up in Nebraska had stamped that tune on my DNA and I was able to pick up the tune and finish the song flawlessly.
Going on my recollection of the video (a recollection that is probably inaccurate after this lapse of time) I think the piece that was interrupted by the Nokia ringtone was from one of the Bach solo partitas or sonatas. Perhaps someone could confirm, or otherwise? 152ee80cbc
