I am the daughter of Windrush generation parents. My mother was a nurse, my father a lorry driver. My working life has been entirely in the public sector in education and the voluntary sector in community groups.
I have been a Labour Party member, activist and trade unionist for over 30 years. I am a member of Unite and GMB, Co-operative Party, Chair of Unite Community Branch and Vice Chair of my CLP, CLP BAME Officer, CLP Women's Officer, Trade Union Liaison Officer and member of the Labour Party's Constitutional Committee and Vice-Chair of Momentum. I am a founder member of Momentum Black Caucus and Executive member of the Campaign for Labour Party Democracy (CLPD).
What will I bring to the NEC?
I will not be a self-serving bureaucrat! I will strive tirelessly for the policies of our last two manifestos. I will be unrelenting in insisting we reverse austerity which has devastated communities like mine. We must again convince people only Labour can restore their living standards. It is only a Labour Party committed to using power in the interests of people not profit that can transform our country for the better. This must involve empowering our members to choose policies and candidates to win.
I will push the NEC to have greater BAME representation throughout the party. Also, I will push for open selections for all candidates for election office. In 2019 I campaigned in 5 parliamentary constituencies. We lost in all of them! We now have only 8 MP's in my region of the East Midlands. If elected I will be the only voice from the East Midlands. At present we have none. I will be a voice for the grassroots for my region and for the national party to win.
Thank you for your nomination!
After just seven days of standing as an NEC Representive, sixteen CLPs nominated Cecile Wright.
