Following the map on the screen, I walked to the vicinity of the destination in the East District and stopped, unfolding the map handed to me by Lamuel and comparing it with the map on the screen to confirm the destination.
The closest place from here is... the tool shop. In that case, it would be good to first visit the tool shop, then the weapon shop, and then the trading company in that order.
With the map in one hand, I started walking towards the tool shop.
"Since it's a transportation quest in the city, there shouldn't be any problems, and it's nice to casually complete quests!"
Especially, cliché developments like those in light novels or manga wouldn't happen! Let's finish this quickly and report back!
"Hmm, hmm, hmmm!"
She thought so as she walked, humming a tune.
"Hmm, hmmm, hmmm! According to the MAP and this map, it should be around here... there it is!"
Approaching the shop, I checked if the name on the sign matched the one on the map. "Ardsley's Tool Shop," just as it was written on the map.
"This is the place. Let's deliver the goods."
After saying that, I opened the door and went inside the shop, where an elderly man greeted me.
Just to be sure, let's double-check.
"Umm~, excuse me, but this is the shop that placed an order for 50kg of tea leaves with the General Guild, correct?"
"Yes, that's so."
"I've brought the tea leaves, so I'll take them out. Where should I place them?"
"You'll take them out? It's rare to see someone with an Item Box skill that large in capacity."
"Well, I get that a lot."
I had to be careful not to reveal too much.
"Please place the tea leaves on the counter here."
Although they were divided into two bags, each weighing about 25 kg, I was worried that the counter might break if I placed them there because it looked old.
"Um, since there's 50 kg, wouldn't it be better to put them on the floor?"
"Oh... right you are."
The old man said so and walked from behind the counter to where I was.
"Young lady, please place the items here and I'll check them over."
"Yes."
After I replied, I took out the bags of tea leaves from storage and placed them on the floor. The old man opened them to check the contents.
"Hmm, indeed, these are what I requested from the General Guild."
Relieved to hear those words, I took out the three delivery documents and gave him the document for the tea leaves.
"Then, please sign here."
"Alright, understood."
After receiving the document from me, the old man took it to the counter, picked up a feather pen, signed his name, and then brought the delivery document back to me.
"There you go, thank you for your hard work."
Taking the offered document, I checked whether his name was written on it.
"...Yes, thank you very much. Well then, I have other places to go, so I'll be off."
"Oh, yes, young lady."
"Hm? What is it?"
As I was about to head to the next place, I was called back, so I stopped and turned around.
"Lately, this area has been a bit dangerous, so be careful."
"Dangerous? Why, what's happening?"
Although I was Japanese in my previous life and have traveled overseas with my master, I somehow understand places like this. Besides, if someone dangerous approaches, the radar will alert me, so I feel safe, but it might be better to ask just in case.
"It might not concern you, but recently, there have been troublemakers causing trouble and vandalizing shops around here. Everyone, including me, is troubled by it."
Oh, there are indeed people like that.
"Are you okay, sir?"
"I run a tool shop, and I'm a member of the General Guild, so I'm okay for now."
Huh? I understand being a member of the General Guild, but saying you're okay for now because you run a tool shop is a bit strange.
"Sir, where have these troublemakers been appearing?"
If they're delinquent adults, they would usually hang around the side streets near the eateries, and if they're street gangs, they would mainly gather in alleyways near parks.
"Let's see... if I remember correctly... eateries, the smithy, and the trading company, I think?"
I'm not sure if there might be troublesome people like yakuza involved when it comes to those areas. Well, it shouldn't matter where I go since I'm a member of the General Guild.
"Thank you for the warning, sir. I'll be careful as I go!"
"Alright, take care now."
I left the tool shop, bid farewell to the old man, and headed outside.
"Now then, next is... the smithy five shops ahead."
While walking with the map still unfolded, I arrived at the smithy named "Gotts' Smithy" as written on the map.
"It's surprisingly closer than it looks on the map."
After saying that, I folded the map and put it in my pocket. Upon entering the shop, I heard the sound of metal being struck, so I turned in the direction of the sound and saw an old dwarf man using a hammer to shape a sword in the back.
There is no one standing behind the counter. Moreover, there was no greeting like "Welcome"... perhaps he hadn't noticed me?
"Umm~, excuse me."
"......"
Huh? Still haven't noticed me?
"Excuse me~!"
"...?"
"Ex! -cuse! me~!!"
"Huh? What's that?"
Finally noticed me!
"I've brought the iron ore you requested from the General Guild."
"Ah, just a moment. My apprentice should be back soon, so ask them."
Do you leave matters related to ore to your apprentice? Recognizing the quality of materials is also part of a craftsman's job.
"Argh, damn it!! Those guys are really the worst!!"
Huh? What's going on?
I turned towards the direction of the voice and saw a young dwarf man standing in front of the entrance, frowning in anger.
"Did those guys pick a fight over our products again?"
Pick a fight? Did someone say something about their products? And again? Has this happened multiple times?
"Yeah, boss! Those guys from the Knight Order insulted our products again!!"
Huh? I heard something I can't ignore just now!!
"Wai- Wait a minute please!"
"Huh? What's up with you?"
While glaring at me, he turned towards me, but I continued speaking without hesitation.
"Are Mr. Guell's people really doing that?"
If this is true, then I have to confront Mr. Guell and the others!
"Guell? Ah, you mean the Second Knight Order. You're mistaken, aren't you getting something wrong?"
"Wrong? No, but the Knight Order is causing trouble for the citizens, aren't they?"
"Are you new to the capital, by any chance?"
He was forging the sword until just now. When the old man called out to me from behind, I turned my body in that direction this time.
"Yes, I've only been in the Royal Capital for two days."
"Then it's understandable that you wouldn't know. I'll explain, so listen carefully."
"Yes."
"In this East District, several eateries, smithies, and inns have been subjected to harassment by underhanded means."
"I heard about it at the tool shop as well. But by underhanded means?"
"They spread rumors about the quality of the products, behave rudely inside the shops, and in extreme cases, they even vandalize the premises, trying to ruin the businesses. And... "
"And is that Mr Guell's knights doing?"
"Not directly... but there are ties to the knights under Captain Guell."
So it's not his knights directly, but they're involved? Hmm... I can't see where this conversation is heading.
"The arrogance of the First Knight Order has been a problem for a while, but their behavior suddenly changed last week."
"Their behavior changed? How was it initially?"
"Well, at first, they would openly criticize the shops, but recently, they've been spreading false rumors about the shops' reputation. They're even picking fights with the shop owners, displaying disgraceful behavior. On top of that, they turn a blind eye to most criminal activities. I don't know if they're doing it by tacit agreement or if they're getting paid off. Well, it seems they haven't laid a hand on any women yet, though."
"Well, if they were to do such things, it would only jeopardize their own position."
"Exactly."
However, those people are despicable. Are they just barely avoiding becoming criminals? But why did they start doing such things? And what's the relationship with the troublemakers causing problems for the shops?
"So! It's said that the cause of the deteriorating security around here is because the First Knight Order took charge of the East District."
The First Knight Order, huh? A different unit from Mr. Guell's?
"Is the reputation of this First Knight Order bad?"
"It's not just bad! It's the worst!!"
Oops! The apprentice seems to be getting angry.
"They're trying to crush the shops that aren't members of the General Guild! And rumor has it that they're collaborating with the infamous Uble Trading Company!!"
"Come to think of it, I heard that the shop that closed down the other day was bought by the Uble Trading Company at a low price from the knights."
Crushing other people's shops and then selling them off cheaply to the Uble Trading Company. That's a clear crime in Japan. And to think there are rumors about them being the worst of the worst.
"I remember those people from the First Knight Order once cracked down on those who caused trouble in the shop."
They cracked down on them while turning a blind eye? Something seems off.
"But those same guys were walking arrogantly in the middle of the city streets the other day, so I can't believe the First Knight Order!!"
"Hmm..."
There's a possibility of collusion. However, this is a problem.
"Well, I'll report this matter to the General Guild when I return."
"Could you do that for us?"
"Yes, leave it to me. Also, where should I put the iron ore?"
"Oh... right, I forgot about that. Just leave it on the ground, and my apprentice will carry it."
"Wa- Wait just a minute! Where the heck is the iron ore!?"
"Then, I'll just put it here."
Ignoring the apprentice who was about to protest, I put the bag of iron ore on the floor and handed the delivery confirmation along with it to the apprentice.
"That's everything. Here, this is the delivery confirmation."
"Oh, uh... you have an item box, huh? Let me check the contents."
As the apprentice took the document from my hand, he started inspecting the quality of the iron ore in the bag, taking each piece out one by one. This might take a while.
"By the way, you."
"Yes, what is it?"
"The blade you have on your left waist, what is it? A knife?"
"My left waist? Are you talking about this karambit knife?"
"Yes, that. Can you show it to me?"
Well, he doesn't seem like the type to steal, so it should be fine to hand it over.
"Sure."
After saying that, I drew the karambit knife from my left waist and handed it to the shopkeeper.
"Thank you. Huh? This is...!"
As soon as I passed the karambit knife to the old man, it disappeared.
Oh no! I remember now, my weapons are supposed to disappear when they fall into the hands of someone else.
"Sorry. I completely forgot, but the weapons I have disappear when someone else touches them. I forgot about it completely!"
"...I see, so you have a unique skill."
"Huh? What's that?"
"You don't know what that is?"
"Well... um, no."
I can pretty much guess though.
"Hmm... it's surprising that you don't know about unique skills. Well, whatever. Simply put, a skill that only that person can use is called a unique skill."
"A skill that only that person can use?"
"Yeah. Like the knife you gave me earlier, it became a weapon that only you can use. By the way, the magic eye is also one of the unique skills."
So Mr. Keith's magic eye is a unique skill?
"You might want to be careful with that skill of yours in the future."
"Huh? Oh, apprentice, have you finished checking the contents?"
"Yeah. Here, I'll return the document."
He works fast, huh?
"Thank you very much."
As I said that, I received the document, checked whether his name was written on it, and then stored it in my storage.
"So, continuing from earlier, most of the nobles try to incorporate those with unique skills into their bloodline regardless of whether they are commoners or not."
Huh? So they incorporate those who possess unique skills into their bloodlines regardless of their status?
"You seem like you want to ask why. The reason is that unique skills become a status symbol for their lineage."
Oh, I see. I'm starting to understand the situation.
"There are people everywhere who will try all sorts of things to lure you in."
"Also, what you need to watch out for are the people from another continent."
Why are people from another continent coming into this?
"Only a few countries and religions there, but they exclude those who possess unique skills as bringers of calamity."
There are people like that in this world. Scary~.
"Those people might come to kill you when things get bad. Well, as long as you're on this continent, you should be fine. But still, be careful."
I should research the countries and organizations since I want to travel.
"I understand. Um..."
"Hm? What is it?"
"Thank you for telling me."
"Hahaha! That's fine! More importantly, you still have deliveries to make, right?"
The apprentice is smiling at me now, unlike when he first saw me.
"Yes."
"Missy, don't forget about that report you mentioned earlier."
"Of course, I won't forget."
Personally, I can't overlook this issue.
"And be careful of the First Knight Order. They patrol during the day. Well, they're just drinking during the day, but be careful not to get involved with them."
"Thank you for the advice, Mr. Shopkeeper! I'll head out for the third delivery now. Thank you for your hospitality!"
"Yeah, good job with the deliveries."
"Come back to this shop again! You're always welcome here!"
"Thank you so much for teaching me various things!"
After I opened the door and left the shop, I crossed my arms in front of it.
Now, it would be better to have more information to report to the General Guild. Should I stop by the eateries and shops while doing the quest and ask around? Hmm, but it would be better to report this as soon as possible... Huh?
"Was it a good idea to ask that girl?"
"Well? I don't know, but since she's a member of the General Guild, she should be trustworthy. Let's get back to work."
"...Understood, Master."
My credibility seems to be low... well, it can't be helped since we just met.
Ignoring the voices leaking from the smithy's door, I proceeded to the next shop.
TL/N: the map in the menu is called "map"(マップ-mappu), in english, while the physical map is "chizu"(地図), that is, the japanese word for a map. i did think even last chapter that maybe i should use something like Navigation instead for the menu one, but then settled on MAP, but now it sounds kinda funky here that "MAP and map" next to each other... meh
also i dont know why the smithy was called weapon shop before she actually got there, maybe the author thought better of it but forgot to go back and change it, well its close enough, and im trying to translate as faithfully as i can, so i think ill just leave things like that as is. i dunno, im not an author to try and completely fix a story
