What factors determine the need for more than one CCS?
Local geography?
Size of the incident?
Number of casualties at the scene?
Number of healthcare providers available at the scene?
We usually would only deploy one casualty clearing station - the size of this would depend on the above factors. In some rare occasions, separate CCS may be deployed due to specific site or incident needs.
a minimum of two clearly distinct areas away from the scene
P3 area - walking wounded
This could be an easily identifiable area people can see and walk towards - this would be away from the scene and avoiding access/egress routes.
P1/2s - initial treatment area
This should not be the medical centre on the site as we expect injured people to present themsevles at these defined places
More formal structures and signage will follow once the NHS Ambulance Service work through their plan and resources arrive at the scene.
