Hacking is gaining unauthorised access to a device or network. Hackers may do this to try to steal or edit data, to plant a virus that will cause damage or to install some other kind of malware such as spyware. 

To protect from hackers you need to have a piece of software called a firewall installed and running on your device or network.

Rules are set up to allow certain websites access and deny others. This stops unauthorised access to a network
