“I’m not sure I’ll fit” you tell Nira.
“Ok, I’ll go,” Nira says.
She squeezes into the vent and you watch as she slowly makes her way out of sight down the air duct.
“I’ll bring help as soon as I can.” she calls back. After she disappears into the dark you start to cough. The room has filled with smoke so you cover your nose and mouth with your shirt to filter the air as much as possible. You hope Nira is able to find some help quickly.
Minutes pass as the room fills with more smoke. You lay on the ground to get as much fresh air as you can. However, it is becoming harder and harder for you to breathe. Just as your vision starts to go black you can hear someone outside the room yelling
“Fire Department, we know you are there and we are going to break down the wall”
You can hear the wall you are laying near being hit with something large and heavy as you pass out.
When you wake up you are in a hospital room. Nira was able to tell the firefighters right where to find you. The doctors tell you that it was good they got to you so fast or you might not have made it out alive. Nira is currently working on her first case but when you leave the hospital you are going to have to go through training classes again. The head of training felt that you should have been able to escape with Nira. You are happy to be alive but disappointed that you have to redo training.
