Recently, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is growing rapidly in a wide range of consumer communications and networks with their autonomy, flexibility, and broad range of application domains. UAV Applications offers possible civil and public domain applications in which single or multiple UAVs may be used. Those applications include but are not limited to utility inspection, anomaly detection and prevention, hazard monitoring, imaging and mapping, etc.
The future mobile communication network also needs an Aerial Base Station (ABS) with the fast-moving and long-term hang-up capabilities. UAV networks can help 5G mobile communication systems rapidly recover the network after the disaster and handle the instant traffic of the flash crowd. An enabling technology has emerged for the cooperation of large numbers of UAVs, regardless of the underlying control strategies, which consists of communication methods with short delay and QoS guarantees. Although 5G mobile communication system proposed network slicing function, the current solutions are more suitable for pre-defined problems and conditions. The current research still lacks a coordinated approach towards a unified methodology in the dynamic environments of UAV networks. Specifically, how to adjust system parameters for radio resource management, mobility management, and service orchestration in order to achieve system optimal performance of UAVs’ swarm service is a very time-consuming and challenging work.
This workshop will bring together academic and industrial experts in the field of UAVs to discuss the techniques and applications of consumer drones. Prospected authors are invited to submit their original contributions, surveys and case studies that address the works of UAV’s communication and networking issues.
