Dr. Christopher Cleveland

Dr. Christopher Cleveland is an Assistant Professor of Education and Education Policy at Brown University, appointed in the Education Department and the Annenberg Institute. Christopher Cleveland’s research and teaching centers on special and gifted education, with related work on school discipline, education finance, and the educator workforce. His primary research methods include statistics, econometrics, natural language processing, and policy analysis.

Christopher is an affiliate of the Brown University Data Science Institute, Brown University Population Studies & Training Center, Boston University Wheelock Educational Policy Center, UC Irvine Center for Administrative Data Analysis, and a Census Special Sworn Status Researcher.

In addition to his research, Christopher partners with school systems, government agencies, and foundations on related strategy issues.

Previously, Christopher was a Research Assistant Professor at Boston University Wheelock College of Education and Human Development and a Consulting Manager at the national nonprofit Education Resource Strategies.

Christopher is a 2026 NAEd/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellow. Christopher received the Institute of Education Sciences Outstanding Predoctoral Award in 2023. 

Christopher has a Ph.D. in Education Policy and Program Evaluation from Harvard University, an Ed.M. in Education Policy and Management from Harvard Graduate School of Education, an A.M. in Education from Harvard University, and an A.B. in Sociology with a Secondary in Mind, Brain, & Behavior from Harvard College.
