Tuesday, February 10, 6-7pm MST
During the past year, Citizens' Climate Lobby has been working hard to highlight key opportunities for Congress to exercise its "power of the purse" to protect federal funding for vital climate science and research through the appropriations process. Right now, Congress is working to pass a bipartisan 2026 spending bill and avoid a partial government shutdown at the end of January. This is a perfect time for Citizens' Climate Lobby New Mexico to demonstrate broad public support for funding and policy choices that protect climate science and research and evidence-based, financially sound climate and energy policy.
Join us on Tuesday, February 11 (6–7pm MST) for a virtual Letter to the Editor (LTE) Party focused on three potential topics:
(1) Continue building momentum for the Fix Our Forests Act (FOFA) to make it easier to manage our forests in a way that reduces the frequency and intensity of wildfires.
(2) Urge Congress to take action in 2026 to advance federal energy permitting reform to keep energy costs low and keep our state healthy and safe.
(3) Urge Congress to protect National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in the 2026 spending bill.
No previous experience is required! The event will teach attendees how to write an LTE, with time dedicated to start writing letters right away. We’ll aim to hit newspapers across the state on a regular cadence.
