To solve climate change,
we need you.

Congratulations on joining Citizens' Climate Lobby Australia. We look forward to getting to know you more! Here you will find everything you need to get started in becoming an effective advocate for climate action with us.

1. Your first week

Welcome to CCL Australia!

Volunteering with us is a great way to help deliver real climate change solutions.

We've put together this guide to help you learn more about what you can get involved with.

We estimate you will need approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete the actions for your first week.

By the end of it, you will have:

  • a better understanding of CCL Australia,

  • an idea of how you may like to start getting involved,

  • scheduled time to connect with your local Group, and

  • even taken some quick but meaningful climate action!

Let's get stuck in!

CCL Community

Estimated time to complete: 15 mins.

CCL Community is the platform we use to connect with the extensive resources provided by our mother organisation, CCL International, based in the USA.

This volunteer portal is filled with amazing stuff for education, outreach and taking action. The 'Resources and Training' available from your dashboard is highly recommended. We will often point you to things there. While-ever we are still working to develop our Australian training resources to the same level, this is a good place to come.

The Community website also has a discussion forum with which you can define yourself and connect with other members locally and internationally. Not many of our Australian members use this messaging forum to it's fullest however, opting for other social media channels (see below), and Slack (and trialling MS Teams) for our national teams involvement. So we don't insist that you put a lot of time into this, but it is good to know it's there, to share something about yourself for others, and it is excellent if you want to extend your connections in CCL beyond Australia.

You are automatically a member of the community when you join. You may like to:

  1. Update your profile with a profile photo, a short bio in the About Me, and your Interests. For help on how to do this, click here.

  2. Join the Australian Group.

  3. Introduce yourself on the CCL Australia forums. You can also post any ideas or questions there too. For help on how to do this, click here.

  4. You may like to check the status of 'Notifications' and 'Subscriptions' in your account records in Community. This is how you can control the emails you receive from the Community. No-one wants to be getting too much mail :)

Connecting with your local Chapter

Estimated time to complete: 5 mins.

CCL Australia has Chapters in Federal Electorates across the country.

Get connected with other CCL volunteers by attending an event run by your local chapter, Region and/or National teams.

Check our upcoming events and add them to your calendar now.

If you cannot find your local group on the list or are unsure which event may be best suited for you, please contact us at

Video: An Introduction to CCLA

Estimated time to complete: 37 mins.

This is the first introductory training module for new CCLA volunteers. It includes the following topics:

    • How CCL was started

    • Our core values

    • The Australian Climate Dividend (ACD)

    • Our methodology

    • Some of our successes

    • How you can get involved

    • A brief tour of our websites (please note that changes have occurred since this was recorded in April 2021)

IMPORTANT: Record Your Training

After watching this video, log that you have completed this training in CCL's Action Tracker: Logging our training and climate advocacy efforts in the Action Tracker is part of being an effective Climate Advocate and an important habit to get into early on. It helps us measure and report our impact as an organisation towards creating the political will for a liveable world.

  1. Select the 'Chapter & Volunteer Development' action type, and click Next at the bottom

  2. Select the 'Training' development action type

  3. Enter 'Informational Session' in the Name of Training field

  4. Edit the date you completed the module, if needed, and click Next

  5. On the participant page, your profile should already be selected, ready for you to click Submit!

What do you enjoy doing?

Estimated time to complete: 10 mins.

So we can get to know you better and find ways you might like to plug-in and connect with our work, please complete this questionnaire.

We'll share your response with your Group Leader and Regional Coordinator, so they can support you in taking action to address climate change with us.
