Plans are for the family to observe the event by a gathering of the children and grandchildren residing in this vicinity. The community joins in congratulations to these good neighbors and wishes them many more wedding anniversaries.
William E. Dimmitt and Miss Mary Gerard were united in the bonds of holy wedlock at Belleville, Wis., where both were residents at the time, her family having located there a number of years before. The date of the wedding was Feb. 2, 1895. There were seven brothers and sisters in the bride’s family, and sixteen in the family of the groom. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dins celebrated their fiftieth or golden wedding anniversary at their home here in Colby Wednesday, January first, immediate relatives being present only on that auspicious event. The home was gaily decorated with golden streamers and gold flowers for the occasion and the afternoon and evening was spent playing cards. A sumptuous dinner was served at noon and again in the evening. This was also the eleventh wedding anniversary of their daughter and son in law, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Ebert, Jr.
Mr. Dins was born December 15th, 1854, in Pommern, Germany, and came to the United States in June 1867, when thirteen years of age. Mrs. Dins was born in West Prussia, Germany, July 25th, 1859, and they were married at Fond du Lac, Wis., January 1st 1880, where they were both employed. In January, 1880, they moved to this section and settled on a track of land which is now the Otto Dins farm. At that time, this was still a dense forest, but, by hard work and privations, built this splendid farm. At that time, there were no fine roads as we have now and provisions had to be carried home over a trail through the woods. After this farm was cleared, they cleared what is now the Albert Dins farm. Both farms consist of 100 acres.
At the time Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dins came to this locality, the mode of conveyance was by the use of oxen and "jumpers," and Mr. and Mrs. Dins had two oxen which they purchased for $140.00 which was considered a considerable sum of money those days. Later, Mr. Dins broke two steers for this purpose and sold his oxen for $150. A number of years later, however, he purchased horses. Like most farmers of this time, they started out with but one cow, which for the most part, served the purpose of a family cow. The greatest income from the farm came from the sale of logs and wood, several large saw mills being in this section at the time.
They have two sons and four daughters - Otto Dins, Albert Dins, Mrs. Emma Staffeil, Mrs. Amelia Wiersig, Mrs. Louise Schultz and Mrs. Ida Ebert. Also twenty-one grand children.
A picture of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dins is on page five of this paper.

Dodte couple brings family, class together as they celebrate 50 years
The celebration of a golden anniversary, a couple of birthdays, a class reunion and a family reunion all took place recently at the Neillsville Senior Citizen Center with Bernard and Esther Dodte the center of attention.
More than 200 attended the festivities which included the Dodte’s 50th anniversary gathering, the honoring of Bernard on an upcoming birthday, the joining of the surviving members of the Neillsville High School Class of ’09, and the gathering of the Dodte family.
Mrs. Dodte, nee Esther Sharp, is a Cable native where her parents, Walter and Luna Sharp, homesteaded. (Five of the ten children of that family gathered at the Neillsville party.)
Esther came to Neillsville to attend a teacher training program at the Neillsville High School, a school that employed her brother, Manley as agricultural instructor. She then taught in rural schools for several years before moving to Wheaton, Illinois, to continue her education. Upon her return, she took up teaching duties at Hiawatha School, earning $80 per month and meeting a bachelor farmer who would soon be her new husband.
The day after school was out, May 7, 1931, she married Bernard Dodte in Mondovi ceremonies. The Rev. George W. Longnecker of Neillsville officiated.
Esther has been a member of the Pine Valley Homemakers since its beginning, almost 50 years. Both she and Bernard are members of the Loyal Free Methodist Church.
Bernard, the son of Carl and Wilhemina Dodte, joins his wife in living on the Town of Pine Valley farm where he was born. He graduated from Neillsville High School in 1909.
Before getting into farming, Bernard worked at the Hancock Experimental Farm. (It was at that farm that Bernard met Casper Peter, now of Watertown, who had recently come from Germany with a nitrogen cartel. Peter often visited the site to study farming methods. He was a guest at the recent celebration.)
Also on the program were Judge Lowell Schoengarth, Bernard’s nephew, who recalled a July 4th of 50 years ago on the Dodte farm; joining him was Bruce Beilfuss, a Neillsville native and now Chief Justice of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, who told of how he and his cousin, Bernard, had begun keeping records for the Dodte dairy herd. (That effort led to world-wide recognition for number of years in production for the dairy operation.)
During the early 1930’s, Bernard was involved in numerous organizations promoting better conditions for farmers, holding office in many of them. In 1972, he was presented with a plaque from the Clark County Holstein Breeders for his 48 years as an active member. In 1980, he received the Agri-businessman Award from the Neillsville Area Chamber of Commerce. He also served on the Town of Pine Valley board, serving as treasurer for five years.
Now joining Bernard is his son, Tom, in the farming operation, which includes 40 original acres and many other rented acreages.
Several Are Honored
Taking part in the program or receiving special recognition at the celebration were Frank Pickering, a missionary from Minnesota; Carl and Lucy Sharp and children, Boise, ID; and Tom and Lydia Dodte, Neillsville, Wis. Also introduced were sisters and a brother of Esther, including Ida Hungerford and Eva Johanssen, both of Clearwater, FL, Lucille Sharp of Delano, CA, and Ray Sharp of Minneapolis, MN.
Participating in a musical program were the Gospel Cowboys, composed of Allen, Alvin and Adrian Alleshaski and Larry Jennings; Mavis Dunn and Evangeline Morris, cousins of Esther’s from Florida and California.
In a special presentation, Ruth Dodte, was presented with a good-luck horseshoe for traveling the greatest distance, Fairbanks, AK, to attend the event.
Another highlight of the day was seating of Mayme Imig at the head table. For Bernard and Mayme, it was a class of ’09 reunion; they are believed to be the sole surviving members of that class.
A birthday cake was presented to Bernard, who turned 90 on July 7, and for Ida Hungerford, who turned 93.
Party Reunion Atmosphere
The tables were decorated with floral centerpieces and golden candles. Food was served by women of the Loyal Free Methodist Church while the anniversary cake was made by Virginia Thoma and the birthday cake by June Clouse.
Family pictures were displayed on several bulletin boards at the open house. Following the public gathering, a family reunion was held at the Dodte farm.
Among those attending from out-of-town were Californians, Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Sharp of Fresno, Altea Whalen of Sacramento, Mr. and Mrs. Mavis Dunn of Upland, Sidney Sharp of San Francisco and Mr. and Mrs. Smigelski and children of San Jose; Minnesotans Mr. and Mrs. Gary Wold, Myrtle Commers and Mr. and Mrs. George Albrecht and daughter, all of the Twin Cities, and Lucille Pickering of Sauk Rapids; Illinoisians Mrs. Victor Taylor and Lilli and Linda of McHenry and Jean Metcalf of Villa Park; and from the state of Washington came Mr. and Mrs. Joel Nye, Spokane and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Dodte, Renton.

This week Tuesday's regular meeting of the local chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star started the year of 1940 off with a "bang." It set an attendance record for regular meetings and by far surpassed the attendance record for "first regular" meetings of the year.
Two wedding anniversaries among its members occasioned the unusual "turn out," the fiftieth for Mr. and Mrs. John T. Drummond, and the thirty-fourth for Mr. and Mrs. C.J. (Maude) Carter, both of which fell on Jan. 8th, 1940.
Mrs. Drummond was a charter member and has the distinction of having served the Chapter as its first Worth Matron. Eventually Mr. Drummond became a member and served in the capacity of Associate Patron for several years, in fact until need of slowing down on social activities that took the couple out at night, made their attendance so uncertain that he would no longer accept the office.
Mr. Carter (Claude) has never been a member of the order, but his wife was among those initiated during the first year of this Chapter's existence. She served as Worth matron from 1914 to 1916 and through the years has given untiringly of herself for the welfare and prosperity of the Chapter.
Because of Mrs. Drummond's recent illness, from which she is still confined to the house, the Drummonds were represented by their daughter, Vera and her husband John Wuethrich. Mrs. Carter was notified during the afternoon to be "on her toes" that evening because guests from Owen were expected, so the unusually large attendance and the "dressed-up-ness" of everybody "got by" her until Chapter closed, she wandered into the anteroom, and there to her complete surprise, found in waiting, Mr. and Mrs. MacLaughlan of Augusta, also her husband. Only then did she come to a full realization of what really was happening.
After a little visiting, the guests assemble around tables stretched end to end the length of the Chapter Room, where a lunch of tasty sandwiches, pickles and coffee were served, followed by ice cream, sweet wafers and a wedding cake, this last, the contribution of the local past matrons, who also arranged the entertainment which consisted of toasts, reminiscences, expressions of appreciation and good wishes, and goo stories, interspersed with the group's singing of "Let Me Call You Sweetheart:, Comin' Thru the Rye" and the "End of A Perfect Day." Mabel Bishop acted as toastmaster.
The mock wedding put on in the Chapter Room last June, in which Mr. and Mr4s. O.J. Amundson were reunited, after 25 years of married life, evidently started a series of enjoyable occasions, for the demand that everybody make known when their wedding anniversary is due, (so it might be celebrated at Chapter) was heard on every side.

Mr. and Mrs. Herman Dux of Globe observed their golden wedding anniversary with an open house at their home Saturday afternoon, September 11. They continued their observance by attending Sunday morning worship services at Immanuel Lutheran Church at Globe together with members of their family. For her marriage, the former Elfrieda Schoenherr wore a full-length gown styled with a fitted waist band and softly-gathered skirt and trimmed with lace appliqués. Made for her by the former Frieda Henchen, now Mrs. John Martin of Humbird, the fragile garment still fits the bride, 50 years later.
Bridal attendants were Mrs. Dux’s sister, Lily Schoenherr, now deceased, and the former Bertha Lueck, now Mrs. Henry Stiemke of Rt. 2 Neillsville. Many guests from the Neillsville, Loyal, Granton, and Poynette areas also greeted the couple.
Featured at the open house was an anniversary cake made and decorated by the couple’s daughter-in-law, Mrs. Louis Dux.
Mr. Dux’s anniversary tie was made for him by a granddaughter, Debbie Dux. The fabric was the same as that in the dress which Miss Dux made for her grandmother. In keeping with the golden anniversary theme, the dress and the tie were created of gold-embroidered lace appliqués on sheer over an opaque ivory underlining. Mrs. Dux’s dress was a closely-fitted A-line style fashioned with short sleeves and a mandarin collar. A pine of gold stones ringed with tiny rhinestones complimented the dress. The jewelry was a gift from Mr. Dux. Gold side-buckled pumps completed the gold-touched ensemble.
