CCC Theatre Live encourages all performers to audition for our productions regardless of experience, abilities, age, gender expression, sexual orientation, race, or background. You don't even have to be a student to audition. We're happy to have anyone who wants to audition, and do not discriminate.
If you are cast, you must register for Drama 220 for 1 unit.
Current High School students can enroll concurrently for $1 through Concurrent Enrollment.
Not a student? Members of the Community cast in productions can register for our Community Engagement course for FREE.
Please contact Program Coordinator Angelina LaBarre at alabarre@contracosta.com if you have any questions regarding casting or registration.
Notes from the Director, Ed Trujillo
We will primarily do cold readings. If you have a prepared monologue, you will be encouraged to present it.
Spanish is used throughout the play but it’s mostly in English.
Though the play takes place in the State of Sinaloa, Mexico, we are encouraging everyone to audition for the production. This is an educational production and everyone has the opportunity to audition.
There is some singing by Don Ernesto, Lucha Grande, and Eva.
There is also a need for musicians (guitar, brass (tuba) and percussion.
We are also looking for assistant stage managers, and tech crew.
The is a broad farce/comedy and the acting is way over the top with strong physical and vocal emphasis. If you are not familiar with this style you will learn it in the rehearsal process. We are going to extend the ensemble by adding dancers, thugs, musicians, nuns, and other extras.
It is very important to read the script before auditioning:

Casting Breakdown
Don Ernesto: Head of a powerful Sinaloa drug cartel. Very macho and controlling. In the city of Culiacan, he's known as Don Ernesto Quesada, but out the city in Monte Verde, he goes by Professor Don Ramiro Bunburi.
Armida: She is Don Ernesto's house manager. She tries to be strict and proper and hold her tongue, but that's too hard for her. She knows everything that is going on. Did I mention she's deaf?

Eva: Beautiful, young woman that has been raised by nuns in a convent and is truly innocent but not naive. She is well read, devours news, and is an intellectual feminist.

Mario Grande Sr: Mario's deceased Narco father. A ghost.
Lucha Grande: She is Mario's mother. She is an older Banda singer. She is tough as nails and a self-made woman. She wears an eye patch and is very macha.
