On Saturday, 18th October 2025, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, the CamEd Banking and Finance Club (CBFIs) successfully organized a symposium titled “Money Talks: How Gen Z Can Manage Their Financial Decisions Early” at the 11th floor of CamEd Business School’s West Building, Benjamin Graham.
The event aimed to raise awareness of the importance of financial literacy among Generation Z in today’s economic environment. It equipped participants with practical knowledge on personal finance management, including saving habits, investment awareness, alternative income opportunities, and essential life lessons on resilience, discipline, and career passion.
The event began with opening remarks from the emcees, Ms. Meas Solita and Mr. Chhim Phalkun, followed by the national anthem.
The first guest speaker, Dr. Lim Siphat, delivered an informative presentation focusing on economic awareness and responsible financial management. He discussed the effects of Cambodia’s dual-currency system, explaining how dependence on the US dollar influences the value of the Cambodian Riel. He then introduced the 3 Pocket Rule, encouraging participants to divide their income into daily spending, emergency savings (referred to as a “shock absorber”), and future growth funds. Dr. Lim emphasized controlling daily expenses to prevent overspending, recommending that 10–20% of income be allocated toward long-term growth. He also highlighted the risks associated with investments, advising participants to conduct proper research, avoid emotional decision-making, and prioritize financial literacy before entering any investment market. In addition, he shared career advice, encouraging students to start from entry-level positions, build experience, and remain patient and disciplined in their professional journey.
The second guest speaker, Ms. V, Co-Founder of Moit Cambodia and a CamEd alumna, presented an engaging session titled “Gen Z in the New Rich Era.” She addressed common financial challenges faced by Gen Z, particularly impulsive spending habits, and emphasized the importance of aligning creativity with financial discipline. Ms. V explained the difference between working for money and making money work for you, encouraging students to focus on value creation rather than salary alone. She shared trending income opportunities among Gen Z, such as content creation and small-scale businesses, while stressing the importance of planning, saving, and consistency. Drawing from her personal experience, she shared her transition from working at a Big 4 firm to becoming a content creator and entrepreneur, highlighting the risks, setbacks, and perseverance behind her success. She encouraged students to pursue opportunities they are passionate about while remaining realistic and financially prepared.
The event continued with a panel discussion and Q&A session, moderated by Ms. Nath Solyta, where participants actively engaged with both speakers by asking questions related to saving, investing, managing debt, and balancing financial stability with personal fulfillment. The speakers emphasized long-term planning, emotional discipline, and sustainable growth.
The symposium concluded with closing remarks by Ms. Kheang Sokhatakvann, Co-President of CBFIs, who expressed appreciation to the guest speakers, organizers, and participants, and encouraged students to apply the lessons learned to real-life financial decisions. Certificates of Appreciation were presented to Dr. Lim Siphat and Ms. V, followed by a group photo session to commemorate the event.
