On Saturday 10 Sep 2022, CamEd Banking and Finance Club (CBFIs) conducted the webinar which was attended by 43 people. The webinar is hosted hybrid via “Zoom Meeting” and in Richard Thaler under the theme “Citation and Referencing” shared by Dr. Kanneth Paul Charman. The purpose of this webinar was to know how and when to cite, use references, and paraphrase properly in a research paper, how to use APA style properly and where to find reliable sources.
According to Dr. Ken, the process of citing and referring other people’s work starts by reading the sources and summarizing what the article is about in our own words. Then we use the citation to support our argument, preferably in simple language, as simply as possible, so that we will not confuse ourselves and other people. “The APA referencing style or in-text citation consists of the author’s username followed by a comma and the year of publication given wholly or partly in round brackets.” As for the reliable source that we can use to get the idea from is to read about what other people have done because it gives us a much better platform and it is not a waste of time at all. For additional useful information from Dr. Ken:
It is best not to use the same source many times, a couple of times should be the maximum and the in-text citation should be at the end of the paragraph.
We should cite from where we took the information from, however for quoting the basic fact, we should use the original source.
Use only one in-text citation style for the whole paper.
In conclusion, this webinar teaches us more details about how to use citations in research papers to avoid plagiarism or flagged contents, how to write in APA style and finding reliable sources and references to support our arguments in writing.
