What is #classroombookaday?

#classroombookaday was started by Jillian Heise (@heisereads) during the 2014-2015 school year, inspired by Donalyn Miller's (@donalynbooks) #bookaday challenge. With a goal to read aloud a picture book every day of the school year for a #bookaday with her 7th & 8th grade students, 180 complete texts were shared that grew classroom community and reading engagement. After sharing it at #nErDcampMI that summer, other teachers wanted to try it. It was coined #classroombookaday so there would be a hashtag specifically about these daily picture book read alouds. Five years later, thousands of educators across the country are utilizing a #classroombookaday goal to positively affect student learning in their schools, classrooms, and libraries. Join in by learning more below & commit to taking the challenge this school year!

A Year of #bookaday Picture Book Read Alouds in Middle School: Why I Did It, How It Went, & Why I'll Do It Again

With all the conversations I was seeing online from participating teachers, I wanted to find a way to help deepen the #classroombookaday experience, help connect teachers with those in other schools also implementing it, and find a way to showcase inclusive authors and #ownvoices titles that I hope more teachers would know and share with students. Introducing #cbadspotlight! Connecting teachers and classes & spotlighting three picture books each month for common titles to build conversations around.
