1. Overview

catrearview provides configurable horror-themed browser effects (jumscare&aftermath), an interactive pet (as a reward for completing Exceptional Eerie Easter Egg Events - 6AM), game features, and related optional page tools. It operates locally in the browser, on a single device. No account is required. No internet connection is required.

The extension does not send page content, screenshots, captured tab audio, browsing URLs or local usage statistics to the developer or an analytics service. It has no telemetry, advertising tracker or remote data-collection backend. Users can view their statistics by entering COUNT in the Cheat code field under Settings. These statistics are provided solely for entertainment and general curiosity, are stored strictly on one computer, and cannot be viewed by anyone other than the user. They also serve a practical purpose: users can see when an achievement will become available. The achievement itself is purely for entertainment and is not displayed anywhere.

The extension still processes user data locally. Depending on which features are enabled, catrearview reads page content and geometry, reacts to interactions, creates temporary screenshots and processes existing tab audio. But I'll repeat myself: it does not send anything anywhere to anyone. This policy explains those uses.

2. Data processed for page features

Website content. Content scripts read relevant page text, DOM elements, layout, computed styles and scrollable regions for configured text-triggered effects, the pet, visual effects and Deleter.

Deleter temporarily hides selected page elements and uses their visible appearance for its particle animation.

!Speed up Mode can temporarily change the playback speed of website audio/video (2x) during the TJoC aftermath effect.

!Temporary screenshots.

Deleter, Flashbang and TJoC can capture the visible area of the active tab in its window.

The resulting image is passed locally to rendering code for effects, cropping or particle animation.

!The extension does not save screenshots as image files, include them in its persistent settings/statistics, or upload them.

!!!Image resources are used in runtime memory and released through normal browser resource cleanup; this is not a promise of forensic secure erasure.

!!!Screenshots and page text can incidentally contain personal or sensitive information already displayed by a website.

!!!catrearview does not intentionally extract credentials, private messages, payment information, health information or identity details into separate datasets or profiles.

Interaction and navigation.

Pointer, click, drag, wheel, scroll and relevant keyboard events are used for interactive controls, pet physics, element selection and game controls.

!The extension does not keep a general keystroke or pointer-event log.

It processes current URLs/domains and navigation/frame information to apply site rules, check exclusions and coordinate the correct document.

!!!It does not query the Chrome History database or keep a chronological browsing-history log.

3. Optional tab-audio processing

For I'm high and TJoC audio effects, the extension can capture a Chrome-authorized tab's existing audio output.

The stream is processed locally using Web Audio and a bundled audio processor, then played through the user's normal audio output.

!This is audio from the tab, not a microphone recording.

!!!The extension does not request camera input or a tab-video capture stream.

!!!It does not create saved audio recordings or upload captured audio.

An authorized capture session can remain active between effects and across navigation within the same tab. It does not necessarily end when an animation finishes.

Users can stop it by turning the extension off, enabling Disable audio FX, switching off the tab's audio-FX state where available, or closing the captured tab.

4. Optional Off cookie banners feature

!This feature is disabled by default; however, when it is enabled, unexpected jumpscare bugs, such as silent jumpscares, are statistically less common.

When enabled, it uses a bundled rule database and scripts/styles to hide or dismiss supported consent banners and block selected banner-related resources.

User exclusions create local allow rules.

!!!Some site handlers click a website's consent button, including accept/agree controls, or read and change named consent cookies and website local/session storage.

!!!This feature is not a guarantee that cookies will be rejected, that tracking will be blocked, or that every site will be supported.

Handlers may examine page-accessible cookie strings in memory to find consent cookies. They do not export cookie values into extension statistics or transmit them to the developer.

Website consent actions can cause the website itself to make requests, save cookies or change its behaviour.

!The extension keeps a local aggregate successful-banner-handling counter, not a cookie-value archive. This is solely for entertainment purposes.

!Turning this feature off or resetting/uninstalling the extension does not undo consent already given to a website or erase that website's cookies/storage.

Use the website's consent controls or Chrome's site-data controls to manage those changes.

Refreshing a page may be needed to remove previously applied page changes.

5. Settings, progress and local statistics

The extension stores the following browser-managed extension data on the device:

Preferences:

- Enabled features, probabilities, volume, language, exclusions and first-run confirmations.

Game data:

- Game progress, unlocks, achievements, selected pet toys and pet/toy positions.

Local statistics and timing information:

- Effect counts and last-trigger times.

- Extension and individual feature usage durations.

- Pet deaths (solely for entertainment purposes).

- Favorite toy (solely for entertainment purposes).

- Jumpscare appearance statistics.

- Deleter removals (solely for entertainment purposes).

- Handled cookie banners (solely for entertainment purposes).

- E5 progress.

- Last reset/initialization date (solely for entertainment purposes).

Temporary operational state:

- Tab/frame/document identifiers.

- Audio/effect status.

- Errors, timers and statistics checkpoints.

!The reset/initialization date is a local feature-state timestamp, not a server-side registration record.

!!!These statistics are not associated with an account, uploaded as analytics or organized into a list of visited websites. They are not sent to anyone.

!Persistent preferences and progress use chrome.storage.local.

Transient operational state uses runtime memory and chrome.storage.session.

Older installations and Chrome Sync

Older installations may have preferences in Chrome Sync.

A one-time, read-only migration checks for those legacy settings and copies relevant values into local storage.

The current extension does not write to Chrome Sync or continuously synchronize settings.

Resetting this version does not erase pre-existing legacy data from a Google account's Sync storage.

6. Why the permissions are requested

- storage: saves local preferences, confirmations, progress and statistics, and temporary session state.

- tabCapture: supplies an authorized tab's audio for the optional local audio effects described above.

- scripting: applies bundled cookie-banner scripts/styles in matching frames and initializes the bundled 6am scripts in an eligible existing tab when needed.

- alarms: schedules local game/effect timers, the enabled local-time 6am event and statistics checkpoints while the background service worker is suspended.

- offscreen: runs a packaged audio/Web Audio document when a service worker cannot provide those browser facilities, including when the popup is closed.

- webNavigation: detects relevant page/frame navigation, selects site handlers and validates document ownership for banner handling and temporary media-speed effects.

- declarativeNetRequestWithHostAccess: lets Chrome apply packaged cookie-banner resource-blocking rules and local exclusion allow rules when that optional feature is enabled.

- Host access to all URLs: supports configured effects, page interaction, screenshots and optional banner handling on arbitrary eligible websites instead of a fixed domain list.

Chrome's own restrictions still apply. Not all features can run on browser-internal or other protected pages. Local file access requires the user to enable Chrome's separate file-URL access setting; host access is not unrestricted access to the computer's filesystem.

7. Transfers, external websites and support

!!!The extension does not sell, rent or upload browser data.

!!!There is no extension-operated server receiving page content, screenshots, tab audio, browsing activity or local usage statistics.

!Some controls and easter eggs activated by entering cheat coda open external websites. (This is done solely for entertainment purposes and/or the developer's social media pages.)

Visiting a link sends an ordinary browser request to its destination.

Those websites and Chrome apply their own policies.

Likewise, consent actions described above interact with the website on which they run.

These ordinary website interactions are distinct from extension telemetry or uploading captured browser data.

Support correspondence

If you choose to email support, your email provider and the recipient receive your email address, message and any attachments you send.

The developer uses that correspondence to address your request; it is not collected automatically by the extension.

Proviider retention and any applicable legal obligations may also apply.

Chrome Web Store installation, updates and any information Google independently handles are governed by Google's own services and policies.

8. Retention and deletion

Preferences, confirmations, progress and statistics remain in local extension storage until reset, removal or other browser/user cleanup.

Session state is temporary and may survive individual service-worker restarts; chrome.storage.session is cleared by the browser when the extension is reloaded, disabled, updated or the browser session ends.

!Screenshots and audio processing buffers are runtime resources, not a saved media archive.

An audio stream can remain active as described in section 3.

Resetting data

Use the extension's RESETALLDATA command to reset extension-local state and stop its effects (in the Cheat code field under Settings).

Fresh initialization may create a new reset date and new default state.

Uninstalling removes browser-managed extension-local data.

This does not remove:

- Website cookies/storage changed by banner handlers.

- Previously migrated legacy Chrome Sync data.

- Support emails (contact@catrearview.cat).

- Information handled independently by external websites or Google.

9. Controls and security

Users can turn the extension and individual features off, change audio settings, and use the available exclusion controls or Chrome's site-access controls.

Turning off all effects is the appropriate control when the available per-site exclusions do not cover a site.

All executable extension code, audio processors and rule databases are packaged with the extension.

!!!The extension does not download and execute remote JavaScript or WebAssembly.

!Data is processed through Chrome's extension environment.

Local settings use normal browser-managed extension storage.

!!!The extesion does not add a separate application-level encryption layer.

Security also depends on the device, browser, profile and operating-system access controls.

No software can guarantee absolute security.

10. Limited Use commitment

catrearview's policy is to follow the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Browser data is used only to provide the disclosed user-facing extension functionality and for entertainment purposes (Section 5).

!!!It is not sold, used for personalized advertising, transferred to data brokers, used to determine creditworthiness or used for lending.

!!!Because captured browser data is not sent to the developer, the developer does not review users' page captures, audio streams or browsing activity.

11. Copyright

The copyright requirements for assets used in the extension from Scott's FNAF game series and Nick (Nikson)'s The Joy of Creation: Story Mode have been fully satisfied. Scott does not object to the use of assets in fan projects, and Nick and I agreed that I would include a link to his upcoming project on Steam in Settings.

12. Policy changes 10/20/2026

I promise that CatRearView will never download or execute remotely hosted code or send user data. However, this policy may change depending on features that are added or removed. I commit to never editing the text above ↑; if this policy changes, the updated policy will be placed below ↓ THIS SENTENCE.
