Submissions

Guidelines

We accept submissions on a rolling basis. We are seeking imaginatively written short fiction pieces between 250 and 2500 words, particularly those written by diverse voices. Though we are open to genres, we are more likely to accept pieces that transcend or blend genres, rather than genre-specific pieces.

Do not submit pieces directly to our email. They will not be considered. Please submit your short stories and flash fiction only through our submission manager.

We do not accept previously published work, but we do encourage simultaneous submissions. Please notify us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere. Please wait for our response before submitting a new piece.

We are currently reading for Volume III, Issue I, which we anticipate publishing in March, 2019. In this issue, we are seeking work exclusively from female identifying and nonbinary writers. (If you don't fit within this category and still submit, your work will be considered for our September issue).

Publication

By submitting to Cat on a Leash Review you grant us first electronic rights and non-exclusive web archival rights. All submissions remain foremost the intellectual property of the artist. Rights revert to the author upon publication. Please credit us later on if your work first appeared here.

Unfortunately, we cannot offer any sort of payment beyond publication at this time, but every accepted piece will be considered for the Editor's Choice Prize. This prize will win you a gift card to your favorite bookstore! One lucky author will win after every publication.

Outside of that, if we choose your work for publication, we can promise you it will be heavily promoted on social media and you will have our eternal gratitude!
