Cat on a Leash Review
An intersectional feminist literary magazine for short fiction
Welcome to Cat on a Leash Review (COLR), a literary magazine for writing that stands out as much as a cat on a leash. We're a small, digital magazine dedicated to curating imaginative short stories and flash fiction, which we publish twice a year—once in March and once in September. To submit, check out our guidelines on the submissions page. To read our stories, take a look at our archives!
Letter from the Editors
January 1, 2019
Happy New Year! We’d like to start this year with an apology for our unplanned hiatus for the second part of last year. 2018 offered up some unexpected hardships for both editors of Cat on a Leash Review, and we reached a point where we had to pause COLR while we attended to our loved ones, our health, and our self care. But with a fresh year laid out in front of us, we are eager to renew our dedication to COLR. We are eager to read the stories you have to tell and to publish the voices that resonate with us.
We have decided to take this unexpected hiatus as an opportunity to make some changes for a fresh start. In addition to freshening up our website, we have decided to change our publishing schedule. We will now be publishing two issues per year -- a spring and a fall issue. This will allow us the time to truly focus on putting out the best issues possible.
We also excited to announce that we are now offering an Editor’s Choice Prize. We will select one story from each issue to for a prize of a $25 gift card for Amazon or a local independent bookstore of the author’s choice. As one of our long term goals for COLR is to someday be able to compensate all our contributors, we feel this is a small step in that direction.
One other change that we have decided to make is to do our first themed issue. For our spring issue, we are thrilled to announce it will be an issue of exclusively female identifying and non-binary authors! Check out our submissions page for more information on submitting work to be considered for this issue!
We are looking forward to this new chapter of COLR and want to thank all of our readers and contributors for continuing on this journey with us!
