Biography

Catherine C. Liu (劉春玲) is an Associate Professor of Statistics and Biostatistics at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). She develops statistical learning models, methods, and theories for high-dimensional data and versatile types of data with complex structures in the contemporary era of data science, with her recent interest in medical image data.

Prior to joining PolyU, Catherine had received Intramural Research Trainee Award and gotten her postdoctoral training at NICHD/NIH, USA. She got her Ph.D. in Statistics at The University of Hong Kong, her M.Phil. in Mathematical Statistics advised by late Prof. Xiru Chen at Wuhan University, and her B.S. in mathematics at Huazhong Normal University.

Catherine has sought the balance between statistical inference and its application in data science. As PI, she has received five GRF/NSFC research grants; as co-I, she has received five HMRF/NSFC research grants, including a COVID-19 research grant (Batch 3) with the amount of HK$ 27+ million.
