Skill Cards can be sold for gold. Gold can be used for recipes or to potentially synthesize Skill Cards, which sacrifices a maximum of ten cards and gold in exchange for a single card. As the player collects Skill Cards, they can additionally reveal "Bonus Sets" which have a particular character theme and can greatly increase each Skill Card's benefits. If the player chooses to use a Bonus Set, the cards will be automatically equipped on their currently selected character.

Other than just a really good story, (I mean, come on, it has a novel, manga and an anime), the game really shines on its gameplay mechanics. Players are put into huge battlefields where they can fight hordes of the enemy forces, either by mounting a horse, or going on foot to attack. All while racking up massive combos in the thousands. The player is open to different characters, each with their own attributes, for example, while playing as Arslan, you have a sword and a spear, both which deal reasonable amount of damage with balanced speed, but when you switch to Daryun, you have a stronger spear and a set of bow and arrows which deal much more ranged attacks. Each character is different to play with. While playing with Daryun, you can be faster and hit harder, because Daryun is one of the best fighters in the Kingdom, whereas Arslan is not that experienced yet. Each character also come with their own signature weapons, which range from swords and spears, to ukeles and a paintbrush (I\u2019m not kidding, there is a guy who attacks with a paintbrush). During fights, the camera angle can get a bit hard getting used to, which often resulted in me missing my most powerful finisher multiple times because I was aiming at a whole different direction. You are also given the option to use different skill cards for each character for different advantages. You can also combine different skill cards to make one super powerful skill card as well. However, if you are playing the game in easy, this is one concept you can completely overlook.

Based on the rank you achieve, you are given a Skill Card which have difference effects such as increasing attack or giving a certain temporary boost for every 100 enemies defeated. You can equip up to three of these cards at a time. While I ended up with a seemingly endless list of Skill Cards towards the end of the game, I was still motivated to try and get a get the best ranking I could in the hope I unlocked a new awesome card.

Like most other games of this style, Arslan lets you make minuscule stat adjustments to your character prior to a mission for special perks. In Arslan, these come in the form of Skill Cards. Enemies randomly drop Skill Cards, enhancements that give you a minor boost to health, melee attacks, projectile attacks, recovery, and other combat stats when equipped. Each character can equip several cards at a time. Skill Cards come in grades, so higher grade cards reward you with bigger boosts, but are much harder to find. I find the boosts to be relatively negligible, despite the micro-management that the system allows. You could easily play through the game without ever touching Skill Cards.

The basic character and weapon systems are also backed up by a Skill Card system. Captains, Gatekeepers, Generals, and Bosses all drop skill cards when they die. You can equip three skill cards at any time and they impart status boosts to your characters. You can also use Synthesis, which meld skills old or useless cards together into new cards for cost. It's not a specifically deep system, but it does allow for more differentiation. be457b7860
